  Do we have the responsibilty
Posted by: KingOfPain - July 13th, 2007, 17:40 - Forum: Guild Wars - Replies (6)

or want to upkeep our Armor and Armament pages?

Take a look at this google search of our GW site. There are also a few sites that just ripped pix form our pages too.[Image: rolleye.gif]

So we are not the most popular site to look up such info but I think we have got the best on the web for showing off those items. We (those pages) are surprisingly highly regarded for those who have seen it.

I mean, will you be convinced to buy a Chaos Axe/Summit Hammer from this
[Image: 160px-Chaos_Axe.jpg] .................. [Image: 160px-Summit_Hammer.jpg]
or this?
[Image: Arm-AxeChaos.jpg] .[Image: Arm-HammerSummit.jpg]

Or our cape design from this[Image: Guild_Realms_Beyond_cape.jpg]Or this? [Image: SurelSM.jpg]

(Sciros: our models are probably better known to a wider audience than your war smile)

Do we have a responsibilty to fullfill? I mean, we can make it bigger, more comprehensive and the best looking Armor and Armament page on the web. Do we want to?

  Adventure 20 - Brantlicus' report
Posted by: Brantlicus - July 13th, 2007, 14:26 - Forum: Civ4 Event Reports - Replies (1)

A couple of days late & a few points short, but here it is. I finished a while back and flat out forgot to post this earleir in the week...

Wow-of-wow, My first ever tournament win - and on Noble, which is slightly above my usual abilities.

Usually getting KILLED, I figured they would not be much help, so I did not do ANY screen prints, but I do have my saved game from just after the domination win. (In 1994, with 10,061 points and 65.5% of population & 68.64 % of the land mass.) I suspect that this point total does not even come close to the top 10.....

So, here's a text based report - detailed early & MUCH less so later. Perhaps two things might come of this. (1) some newer newby might have an idea of where to start & (2) some more experienced person might point out where I could have done better.

A couple of observations:

1) Not being able to build courthouses, banks, markets & groceries was costly. Late in the game, I was strugling to keep a positive cash flow.
2) Not having to wait out revolutions was interesting, but ultimately, I'm not so sure how valuable that is.
3) I wondered for a number of turns wondering why I did not have visibility into foreign cities due to the religion. Finally, it occurred to me that the religion I had did not have that much influence, so I converted to Judaism. Voila, I could see into a lot of cities.

Anyway, here's the report:

-Settled in place. Figured to go for early religion, since that was suggested. So researched Polytheism. Build Warrior first. Moved exploring warrior S to goody hut (Agriculture).
-Moved NW to another goody hut (93 gold)
-3680-Warrior finished - build worker
-3560-Polytheism done, founded Hinduism, research mining
-found another goody hut off to W (experience-used to get to Woodsman II)
-3320-Mining Done. Now researching BW
-3080-Worker done. Settler.
-2920-Another goody hut (pottery)
-2840-now on masonry
-2760-that experience pays off as I encounter lions which I kill w/no damage
-2720-Ran into E map edge.
-2680-ANOTHER goody hut (Hunting)
-2640-Ran into Napolean
-2560-Finished Masonry. Go for Monotheism.
-2480-Lions again. A little damage this time.
-2080-Founded Judaism. now on AH
-1960-Founded Medina - Encountered Cathy
-1840-ANOTHER goody hut-gold
-1760-ran into George
-1640-Freddy shows up
-1560-Finished Stonehenge. Working on Oracle
-1280-Lost my exploring warrior to some bears.
-1080-Oracle Done. Choose CoL. Founded Confusianism. next - Civil Service.
-900-Got GP Moses. Build temple of Solomon.
-875-Napolean converts to confusianism.
-400-Another GP. Built Kish Vishwanath.

[Here is where I got tired of writing stuff down!]

--AD era--
-150 Founded Christianity in Damascus.
-900 Founded Islam in Najran

Somewhere in here, Cathy asked for help in war with Fred. We went on for a couple of turns - I was attacking one of Fred's cities when she abruptly declared on me. So, NO MERCY. I made nice with Fred and he agreed quickly. So, then I went after Cathy. She finally fell in 1874. I acquired Moscow from her for my 6th Holy City.

In 1927, I noticed I was losing money at a high rate. So I cut back on research. Struggled with this off and on the rest of the game. I assume life would have been better if I could have built courthouses.

Once Cathy was gone, I went after Fred. Shortly after that, Napolean joined the battle with a TON of attackers, but he was half-hearted and although he had all sorts of units in place to take out Fred, he let me do the dirty work and Fred Fell in 1933.

After Fred was gone, I thought I would only have to take out part of George's cities for the victory, but that proved not to be the case... His last city fell in 1987. I was "this close"....... The culture did not expand enough to get to the 68% land mass. So, I quickly built a settler & selted in the far SW corner of the map.

I was getting ready in case I had to go to a brief war with Nappy. He had HUGE armies in cities near my weakly defended ones, so I started moving some defense in. I figured ONE massive attack on his westernmost city which stuck out into my territory would be suffiecent. The culture borders would be enough to get the required territory. BUT, if it took just a little too long and he went after MY cities, It would be a lONG, drawn out battle.

A turn later & the borders of my new city expand enough!!

1994 - Victory is sweet!

  Results and Upcoming Schedule
Posted by: Sullla - July 13th, 2007, 02:44 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (10)

Because I'm working on limited Internet acccess here in London currently, I won't be compiling the Adventure 20 results this week. I'll put them together at the end of July at the same time as the Epic 12 ones; apologies for the delay, but I hope two weeks won't kill anyone.

Epic 12 closes on July 23, the same week that Beyond the Sword is released. The plan is to give everyone a couple of days to either play around with the expansion on their own, or read some user reviews and decide whether it's worth a purchase. Epic 13 will be run on Beyond the Sword, will be announced on July 30, and will officially open the following week on August 6 - the same day that Adventure 21 closes. See, I did have this planned out lol

Just wanted to give all of you a head's up here. Depending on how good the expansion proves to be, we'll decide on the fly how many games should be run on each version of Civ

  I'm Almost Back!
Posted by: WarBlade - July 12th, 2007, 21:38 - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (1)

I'm kinda back and kinda not (in case anyone in the Realms Beyond: Guild Wars guild is wondering why the hall isn't blessed with the mighty red pants or the brooding presence of the unkillable Ki Te Mutunga). tongue That pesky weather has been at it again with the pushing stuff around fixation.

As mentioned in a thread elsewhere I had a bit of a blow on Tuesday night...

Quote:Last night all my shows died when the power cut off at 8:45 (after four momentary failures knocking out shows mid-movie in the preceeding two hours). Great fun when Harry Potter 5 is only half built up and there's still two hours of Pirates of the Caribbean 3 to run through a projector. Emergency lighting only lasted an hour and pretty soon we were down to torchlight. By 10:30 I had experienced being sucked out of a door for the first time ever. No worries though - I got my feet down and decelerated the door enough to save it (the one next to it had been reduced to a spiderweb of reinforced glass some hours earlier). At 11:15 the last two of us packed up and went home, although the storm kept me awake until about 1:00 or something I suppose (dunno really).

I'm told that power came back about 4:30 in the morning. I woke up at 5:43 and after a slalom dash to work negotiating fallen trees, rubbish bins and other crap I burst into the projection room at 6:00 and started slamming Potter together and running those movies through.

My day shift projectionist took over at 8:34, by which I had cleared the movie-related set backs, leaving me to head into damage assessment. Up on the roof one of the air conditioning units had been torn up a bit. One side panel was lying on the roof, the other heavier one from the same unit was simply gone. It was discovered about an hour later north of the building. Most of the filters were ripped out as well and I'm buggered if I know how far those things have gone.

Eventually I came home for three hours, then turned around and went back to work again. There's a remnant of a neon sign whipping around in the wind out front still to tackle and a blown relay in the air conditioner control panel to sort out in the morning, then interlock training for one of my guys, home, telecommute, back to work again, home, crash...
... I've had my work cut out for me. eek The cinema air conditioning systems are almost back online and need a different servicing company to complete the work. On the home front, while my house power supply was restored the following morning I still don't have hot water and it's now three days on. Booo! tongue Oh well. The house is unscathed. I can live without hot showers for a bit although figuring out a whole new routine of having a clean in the middle of winter has been an interesting experience.

I'll be back.thumbsup

  GW:EN at E3
Posted by: Lurker Wyrm - July 12th, 2007, 00:11 - Forum: Guild Wars - Replies (12)

I'm sure this'll probably all be up on the fansites before long (if it isn't already), but RPGamer already has some of the new GW:EN content for E3 up, including what looks like a shot of the Norn woman in-game, as well as a shot of what looks like new mesmer armor and, a couple new monsters (one looks like Shelob, the other like a T-Rex). They've also got the box art available and some screens, as well as a movie.

You can get to their GW:EN section here or you can just go to the main site and navigate the rest of the E3 coverage.

The movie is of special interest, imo, because, unlike a lot of their other in-game trailers which are nothing but shots of battles, these are pretty much all scenery pans, including an active Asura Gate, more monsters than what the screens have, and a look at new ele armor which, well, you have to see it to believe it (it's at 1:38). Also, this ele has a hairstyle that's not an option currently, so she's either the new hero or they're going to let you make new chars with GW:EN templates.

One last thing of interest is that the trailer has new music as the soundtrack, which seems like a mix of NF and Proph. There may have been some Factions in there too, but I'd have to pay more attention while listening.

How well known are your toons?
Posted by: KingOfPain - July 11th, 2007, 13:02 - Forum: Guild Wars - Replies (21)

I was just looking at some screenshots over at Arch and was surprised I recongnized some of the characters by their toons.

So here's a little game we can play and see how well known your toons are. Email or PM me your toons so I can post them without revealing their owners' names. Guessing can take the form in exact name of the toon to just a vague idea who that toon maybe.

The owner of the most recongnized toon wins a Gwen's Broken Flute!

The losers: Maybe it's time you co-op more, advertise more, get new armors to set yourselves apart. [Image: tongue.gif]

This is the chance to show off your toons!
Don't be shy, send me dem pix [Image: thumbsup.gif]

Hmm, maybe we can have a best looking toon contest too smile

  BWardly's Adv20
Posted by: BWardly - July 11th, 2007, 01:57 - Forum: Civ4 Event Reports - Replies (1)

Hopefully I'm not too late to post my results - I've been busy the past few days. Not much of a report, but I think spending at most one tenth of the time on the report as it took you to play the game is a good ratio.

BWardly's Civ Reports

I actually played about half of this game while watching the NBA draft...and I almost did the entire report interspersed with a live blogging of my thoughts on the draft. But I doubted anyone was as big of an NBA fan as I, so I spared y'all that lol

Adv 20: My Workers Have No Shirts and No Sunscreen!
Posted by: Antoninus - July 10th, 2007, 18:44 - Forum: Civ4 Event Reports - No Replies

After downloading the game, I outlined my pre-game strategy:

"Dominate."

Ok, enough of the pregame thoughts, let’s get on with the game …

One blue circle to my east, one to my west. But moving east looked daft, since you would be
adding all those peaks to your BFC. I had wheat to my left (I guess that's the settler’s right …? I think …),
and sheep to my right. I didn’t want to move my settler just based upon silly blue circles, so I
settled in place.

If I was going to be limited to building banks and such only in the holy cities, I decided to found as
many religions as possible. So I researched the techs in order to found Budhism, Hinduism
and then Judaism.

The kind indigenous peoples to my south then taught me this:

This would give my worker the perfect thing to do while I ended up chasing religions.
Wow, that couldn’t have worked out better.

Discovered the gold oasis to the south (gold resource and three oases … maybe its "oasi"? ?)

Also discovered the “gold flood plains with cow,” to the southeast. Wow, there’s actually a long line of
floodplains tiles following the river moving directly south.

Looks like Napolean has claimed some of them.

Every once in a while you come across a cool combination of tile features:

Peaks usually stick up above the treeline, but not when it comes to jungles in the desert, apparently.
Those palm trees grow right up into and above the snowline.

I came across a warrior of Napolean’s, so I thought, what the heck. I called his leader an awfully
short man, and so we were at war. I’ve been practicing a little more aggression at my starts,
so we’ll see what this brings me.

Wow, another long line of floodplains following a different river to the west.

Is this the
Tigres and Euphrates? Interesting map. I like this.

My second city was located in the first set of floodplains, to the south of my capital

Holy cow. A third floodplains river running south, off farther to the east.

I guess we have the Tigres, Euphrates and the Mississippi.

I’ve got to settle that area eventually. It’s a little far south to be my third city location, but we’ll see.

My war with Napolean only lasted a few hundred years, and did not end in any city swapping by either party.
But I took out several of his units when he invaded, and basically knocked him down the score
chart a bit before agreeing to peace.

Once I found the marble to the southeast, I was determined to settle there for my third city.
Its not the best location, but marble would speed production of the Parthenon, which would
give me another 50% GP production boost for all cities. Nice combo when your civ is already Philosophical.

Confusionism in 575 BC.

Parthenon in 250 BC, then the Oracle in 150 BC. Marble helped me out with both.

Founded all of the religions, except Taoism, and I apparently haven’t even met the Taoist founder. Hmm.

So here’s how the religions panned out:

1. Mecca was the holy city for the first three (Budhism, Hinduism and Judaism).
2. Medina, just to the south of my capital, was the Christian holy city.
3. Damascus, to the east, founded Confusionism, and
4. Najran, to the east on the northern coast, was the holy city of Islam.

This meant that I had plenty of cities which were safe to build banks, grocers and such.
On the other hand, I discovered later that I can’t build Wallstreet. I have only 4 cities with
religions founded, which means I can only build 4 banks, and I need FIVE banks in order to
build Wallstreet. That was the downside of having Mecca end up with three of the religions.

By 820 AD I had the following 6 cities.

The only naval ships built were three frigates, and I used them to bombared Catherine’s coastal cities.
Once that was done, there was nothing else for them to do, so they were quickly mothballed
off the shores of Mecca.

I realize I’m fast forwarding here, but I tend to forget about screenshots and taking notes the
farther into the game I get.

Eventually I end up with a domination victory in 1983.

Not gonna win me any fastest finish awards,
but this game was great for me, because I’m not nearly as good at warmongering as building,
so I’m always looking for excuses to practice that aspect of the game.

Thanks, Sulla, for a great game.

  Euro-Friendly Midweek GvG--Any Interest?
Posted by: ceolstan - July 10th, 2007, 18:12 - Forum: PvP - Replies (7)

Amazon Basin is trying to get GvG going on Tuesdays at the Euro-friendly time of 3:30pm EDT/7:30pm GMT/8:30pm BST/9:30pm CET.

We know we can field at least 4 natives. What we need is extra help in filling out our ranks with players who would like to play GvG but whose guilds are not playing at that time. We will happily rotate players in and out of the team so that everyone can play, though of course we'll need to ensure that we have the minimum of 4 natives.

Our goal is to expand our PvP player base. We have found that if we play PvP and have a good gathering of people on our TS server, we get more of our players to drop by out of interest. This means we can introduce more people to PvP.

As you can imagine, the quality is extremely uneven. Players will often play unfamiliar roles, and the leaders often lack the kind of experience that will allow them to make good tactical calls. However, all of that is part of the learning process, and we believe that if we can offer PvP more consistently during this time period, we can improve the level of play overall. We do have a build, as we're trying to get people to become familiar with one or two key roles on an individual level and learn how those synergize with the build as a whole.

At any rate, if you would like to join us, please let me know either by posting in this thread or PMing me. You should also have our general contact information. The easiest way to contact us is to hang out in our irc channel, #ab-gw on gamesurge. WildPax is the main organizer. Pax is also on xfire as Pax - Susan. Her ingame name is Pax Vildevarg. You can also find us on our teamspeak server, which I believe many of the folks here have on their server list.

We're open to people with all degrees of PvP experience, and would appreciate the insights of more experienced people while welcoming the interest of the less experienced people.

And, of course, RB and AB have played together quite a bit. Here's hoping that we can work something out to the advantage of both our guilds. smile
