If the map is already complete (huge thanks Erwin!), I suppose I should actually make this. I'll have to try to think of a clever title at some point.
Not really anything to talk about yet, but for any lurkers interested, a little about myself. I found RB as a teenager several years ago now, after getting completely addicted to Sullla's Civ IV reports and devouring them in one weekend. I guess you could say I lived a pretty wild life. I'll mention that this is my first pitboss and close-to first rtr game. As for my skill level, I'm very confident at emperor and a little sketchy at immortal, which seems on the low end here(?) but that might not be a guaranteed death blow in this game, as there's a couple of other new players. I'll try to keep my thread reasonably up-to-date, except in times of great real-life duress. Uni exams come to mind.
With that said, if I ever say something ignorant of the multiplayer world, or just plain silly, feel free to come and correct me; in fact, please do! Above all else I figure this game is going to be a learning experience, and lurker interaction is always appreciated. Furthermore, if anyone has any questions about what I'm doing during the game, let loose!
Some actual planning and thoughts when the leader/civ picks and start come out.

I won't post PB38 spoilers here without spoiler guards, so anyone playing that should be able to read this.
I do have a plan not to get run over this time!
I'll also post a video here, just in case someone accidentally clicks here. You know what, I haven't seen a Nyan Cat reference in a while.
I might put my password here too as well, but I expect not to need a substitute in an 8-player game.
I'll also change my thread title once I make picks.

How do you play properly with heros? |

Due to the recent changes, I have kind of lost track of what a good hero strategy is - below lunatic or master level (I am not good enough for that by all means).
What are good picks? The obvious ones are warlord/tactician/famous, as before, but how about an artificer strategy?
Which heros work well with what?
Would appreciate some type of "hero strategy guide".
Thanks in advance

Oldies - Old Games We Might Have Missed |

After buying Pharoah and Tyrian on GoG, I wondered if I might have missed some other old games from the 90s and 00s. I can't be the only one who goes back to play these things especially since this forum is populated by old farts compared to other corners of the internet. So I'm creating this thread to see if anyone wants to share their old games.
A few good ones:
- Battlezone 2 - FPS + RTS hybrid. Kinda reminds me of Halo in a lot of ways except you have the base building of games like C&C Renegade. BZ 1 had its remaster recently.
- C&C Renegade - Same as above, there are tons of mods to switch between different command and conquer games as well as HD upgrades.
- MechWarrior games - I highly recommend MW 3 & 4. Still hold up VERY well. MW4 was free for a while too so might be abandonware now.
- Tyrian 2000 - A non-bullet hell topdown spaceship shooter. It has the most content (hidden and otherwise) of any game of the genre I've seen (There's a scorched earth clone in it for goodness sake). Plus its actually fun rather than bullet hell. Definitely holds up.
- Pharoah, Zeus, Caesar, Emperor - If you like something like Anno or Simcity but want a more gamey puzzlely City Builder that hasn't really been made since the early 2000s, then this is definitely worth checking you. I personally like Pharoah because its the most complex.
- King of Dragon Pass - Remember those metaphors about political & economic systems but with cows. Be a villiage leader, steal cows, get cows stolen. Grow your villiage while dealing with all sorts of scenarios and quests. Have you ever wanted to know you would do if one of your villiagers was seduced by a dryad and started spreading plant STDs around? I haven't but its a thing in this game. Its hard to describe. If you like the game Thera this is the progenitor of the genre.

AI settlers and water walking |

Is it just me, or does it seem AIs with access to water walking settlers (black & green) get off to far better starts than others? (presently on master with all fair)
Lizardmen get a good start too, but their overall mediocricity does hit in. Not so with black/green Myrrans with anything but trolls.
Blue should have access to likewise settler mobility, but likely the buff is easier for the AI than floating island.

Auto-combat for doing nothing? |

Trying a dwarves volcano+nature. Since this sprites-sniping is apparently intended at the start, could there be a way to get a auto-combat feature where your units just sit there doing nothing? Clicking done and waiting in between is just too boring. Btw at least I have not used the normal auto combat like ever, so this could be the only useful feature for it, if it cannot be made optional. I understand auto is presumably a way to hasten about the end after you've practically won, but those combats tend to be over in 10 clicks anyway.

New difficulty level?? |

I've been thinking and there seems to be a need for a difficulty level between Normal and Advanced, one where the AI does not get a resource advantage, like Normal, but is able to play custom wizards and Myrror like Advanced.
Furthermore, it could be used to make the existing "Normal" easier, as it seems to be quite overwhelming to players who are not yet familiar with the mod. As is the AI plays at least good enough to beat those players without a resource advantage - and that might not be a good thing as people generally don't want to set difficulty to "Easy" if they already know the (original) game. It could keep the resource at 100% unlike Easy, but the AI would have certain features disabled to reduce the difficulty.
I'm not playing much on Normal but this is the impression I got from watching videos. Do tell me what you think.
