  AI Spell Blast use
Posted by: Seravy - May 16th, 2016, 07:40 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (5)

In addition to the original "let's just randomly throw around curses, hey Spell Blast is a curse, I'll do that" AI, the previous updates allowed the AI to comprehend the meaning of Spell Blast.
The AI can now cast Detect Magic, and intentionally cast Spell Blast at specific players if they see a spell they do not want coming.
Furthermore, even without Detect Magic they can do the same against Spell of Mastery.

This is the current full list of spells they prefer to blast. Let me know if you think something is a large threat to the AI and is not on the list, or the opposite, it's on the list even though it's not going to help the player win against the AI any more then average spells.
Spell of Return was intentionally removed in the current not yet public update because it both has problems (the AI keeps blasting it because it restarts) and also because blasting it is not allowed to the human player, nor is it a good game mechanic.

Code:
db 01Ch ;Survival Instinct
db 01Ah ;Earthquake
db 01Fh ;Regeneration
db 020h ;Behemoth
db 022h ;Awareness
db 024h ;Colossus
db 027h ;Great Wyrm
db 028h ;Nature's Wrath
db 039h ;Aether Binding
db 03Bh ;Aura of Majesty
db 045h ;Magic Immunity
db 046h ;Flying Fortress
db 048h ;Spell Ward
db 04Ch ;Spell Binding
db 04Eh ;Sky Drake
db 04Fh ;Suppress Magic
db 050h ;Time Stop
db 06Bh ;Doom Bat
db 06Ch ;Doom Mastery
db 06Fh ;Hydra
db 071h ;Meteor Storm
db 072h ;Great Wasting
db 076h ;Great Drake
db 077h ;Call of the Void
db 078h ;Armageddon
db 085h ;Resurrection
db 08Eh ;Incarnation
db 09Eh ;Crusade
db 09Fh ;Arch Angel
db 0A0h ;Charm of Life
db 0BCh ;Zombie Mastery
db 0C1h ;Death Knights
db 0C4h ;Pestilence
db 0C5h ;Eternal Night
db 0C6h ;Evil Omens
db 0C7h ;Death Wish
db 0C8h ;Demon Lord
db 0D3h ;Create Artifact
db 0D4h ;Summon Champion

Note that diplomacy still applies to Spell Blast as usual for curses : if there is no Hostility, Spell Blast won't be used, however, Spell of Mastery now properly ensures a war breaks out so this should not be an issue.

  Civ 5 Achievements
Posted by: Jkaen - May 16th, 2016, 07:29 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (3)

I keep nipping back to Civ 5 every now and then to play a game, and doing so try to knock off a few achievements.

Does anybody know how to track the grind achievements properly? For example on the 'build all wonders through all games' is there a way to see which wonders I am missing?

Same thing with units built too i guess

  Spell combos
Posted by: Seravy - May 14th, 2016, 09:45 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (8)

Aside from making every spell individually powerful, the mod also aims to have spells that provide you with many different possible combinations, both inside and even more so across realms.
I'll list a few myself, and feel free to add whichever ones you found.

Doom Mastery+Survival Instinct+Chaos Surge - Super powerful normal units.
Immolation or Wall of Fire+Gargoyles - Takes no damage but doesn't do much damage either? those spells fix that. Add invulnerability, iron skin, etc for even more invincible gargoyles. Works with other high DEF units as well.
Endurance + Holy Armor + Heroism - Early unit that is almost impossible to kill with normal units typically available at that time, and it even moves faster. Add Bless when using it against Death of Chaos wizards.
Eternal Night + Final Wave or Great Unsummoning - Apply a resistance penalty to your global spell!
Raise Volcano + Transmute - Create your own Adamantium or Crysx in any useless turndra, desert or similar tile!
Warp Node + Evil Presence + Pestilence - Enemy gains no power from pretty much anything except their wizard's guilds. Works best if their race doesn't have any. top it off with Famine for even harsher income reduction on gold and food, eventually resulting in the wizard losing most of their normal units due to being unable to pay maintenance.
Zombie Mastery + Survival Instinct - Create stronger zombies.
Zombie Mastery + High Prayer - Suddenly those stacks of 9 zombies are...as good as an army of 9 hammerhands! Except they also make you more undead!
Berserk + Iron Skin + Invulnerability - Who says you can't have double attack and still be able to have an acceptable defense?
Flame Blade+Lionheart+Blazing March - Crazy attack power on units, great on multi-figures. Add Doom Mastery, Chaos Surge, High Prayer and Survival instinct for even more power if you have them.
Heavenly Light + Dark Rituals - Double the power production of your Heavenly Lights.
Wraith Form + Floating Island - Who said you can't carry units over land on your transports? Flight works too.
Armageddon+Great Wasting - Watch the enemy cities revolt and eventually fall back to a minimal size without having to even move your armies. Throw in some Call of the Void or Famine for even faster effects.
Focus Magic + Ghouls - Create even more undead while killing more effectively.
Focus Magic + Summon Demon - And your Demon will be able to summon his friend in combat. Or just kill things with Word of Death.
Focus Magic + Efreet - And now you have access to Doom Bolt and Disintegrate!
Supreme Light+High Prayer+ Unicorns - And you thought Djinn hit hard and are difficult to kill?
Wall of Darkness + Flying Fortress - You can't use ranged OR melee to attack this city!
Terror + Warp Reality + Mass Invisibility - -4 to hit on all enemies? You aren't going to take much damage in battles with these around.

  Fire Emblem 6 - Race #2
Posted by: Jowy - May 12th, 2016, 08:04 - Forum: The Gaming Table - Replies (151)

Let's give this another shot with a new roster! We're playing through Fire Emblem 6: Fuuin no Tsurugi (Binding Blade).

We will first draft units into our teams, then complete the game in as few turns as possible, only using the units we picked.
We will play (mostly) chapter by chapter, writing reports on what happened and how many turns we took.
We are allowed to look at spoilers from the other teams after we have finished the chapter ourselves.

Rules:

1. Roy, Marcus, Merlinus, Lalam/Elphim and Fa are freebies.
2. Each team drafts 12 units by snake pick.
3. Normal mode.
4. Undrafted units may recruit characters, rescue undrafted units and NPC's, trade, visit shops and armories, and dig up items in the desert.
5. Undrafted units may not do anything not listed above, including but not limited to meatshielding, building supports, and opening doors and chests.
6. Warp staff is banned.
7. All Gaiden chapters are required to be visited. Chapter 20x (either route) does not count towards the total turn count up to 20 turns taken.
8. NPC's may do as they please without penalty.
9. The game must be played out to the True Ending.
10. Using an undrafted unit will have you take a 4 turn penalty per unit, per chapter.
11. However, undrafted thieves may be used to obtain necessary promotion items.
12. No RNG manipulation allowed! (reloads are allowed though, just don't reload every step etc. honour rules)

Draftable units:

Lance
Wolt
Bors
Ellen
Dieck

  Twilight Struggle on Steam

I grabbed this and have finished 4 games with a friend now and am really liking the Pseudo PBEM (Chess timers set to 45 days each) experience. Would anyone be interested in doing a game with reporting threads?

  PBEM71 - Substitute for Oxyphenbutazone
Posted by: Alhazard - May 8th, 2016, 11:54 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (6)

Oxyphenbutazone has disappeared from RB and we really like to see PBEM71 continue. You would be Ghandi of Zulu. The game is base BtS, AW with 4 players, and on a small map like PBEM 34. We are on 900BC.

Please write here, if you would be interested, and how spoiled you're.

Could some of the lurkers check if Oxyphenbutazone's password available or do we need to request someone to hack the save to get it.

Thank you.

  Diplomacy ideas
Posted by: Seravy - May 8th, 2016, 06:50 - Forum: Master of Magic - Replies (3)

1. Chaotic wizards have a random chance to declare war on people, so I was wondering, what if they also had a random chance to offer treaties or making peace?
2. Jihad hostility level has no actual effect on gameplay. I wonder if we could come up with something that makes it different from warlike.

  Trip to Ireland and England
Posted by: Ichabod - May 7th, 2016, 17:11 - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (15)

Hey everyone,

I'm planning a trip to Ireland and England, to stay there for about a month (two weeks in each country), traveling alone. I'd like to get good weather, so I'm planing to go between July and August.

I'm brazilian and this will be my first time travelling by myself, to a very distant place. So, if you guys have any advice, suggestions of nice places to visit or anything that seems meaningful that I'm very likely to be overlooking (I bet a lot of you have travelled way more than I have, so any type of general travel advice can help), I made this thread to ask for your help.

I have a longtime friend that lives in Ireland, so he'll help me survive there. But I'd be by myself in England.

I'm more interested in knowing the normal life of the place, rather than the touristic things. That being said, I'd like to see some places. The one that comes to mind immediately is Stratford-upon-Avon. I really want to visit there. Also, Stonehenge, to increase my wonder count. But nothing is really set in stone for now.

Finally, if any of you want to go out for a beer while I'm there, you can have the opportunity to laugh at my bad english and how I'll probably pass out after 2 glasses of irish/english beer.

Zalson plays one turn at a time [COMPLETE]
Posted by: Zalson - May 7th, 2016, 12:40 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (323)

I've been reading the Pitboss threads lately and have been feeling the CIV itch. However, playing a pitboss game isn't an option because of the time commitment. That, and my skills need a tune up.

So, I've decided to play a turn a day of a custom Single Player to get my game up to snuff before possibly joining a PBEM game.

The CIV:

Random (Saladin of Arabia)

Obviously, this would not be a popular choice in a standard multiplayer set up. Spiritual is strong, but Protective is not. Arabia is also not the strongest civilization; the Madrassa is okay as a unique building; the Camel Archer is not.

I also don't have the greatest track record with Saladin...

Anyway, I tend to have restartitis, so we're rolling the first game I came up with.

The settings:

Monarch
Continents (probably wouldn't be played MP)
Temperate Climate
Med Sea Level

Ancient
Normal Game Speed

Options:
No Barbs
Aggressive AI
No Tech Trading
No Vassal States
No Random Events

Here's the start.
