RBP13 IT and Tech Issues Thread
Posted by: sunrise089 - July 22nd, 2013, 21:46 - Forum: Pitboss 13 - Replies (1625)

This is the IT and Tech Issues Thread for RBP13, the third pitboss game using the community developed 'RB Mod.' The organizing thread for the game can be found here.

The game is now live. If this is your first time connecting please read this entire post carefully. Text in Red will be of interest to veterans.

Access the game via DirectIP connection after loading the mod to sunrise089.dyndns.org:2057. No password is needed (nor will one permit a successful connection) when connecting to the game. Make 100% sure there are no spaces in the field or you'll get an error. Spaces love to crop up unexpectedly, so please double-check this before posting that you can't connect.

The first time a player logs into the game they will be asked to set and confirm a password. This is non-trivial to change, so please make sure you know what it is, can remember it, etc.

In-game you can play as normal. This game is played via simultaneous turns, so you can queue unit actions and builds like normal, even after you end turn. I get asked sometimes, so I'll note you press TAB to chat in-game. When you're done playing please log out via Exit to Main Menu, not Exit to Desktop (which can create connectivity/lag issues).

I have set a 48 hour timer per team for the first turn. Starting next turn the timer will switch to 24 in-game hours. Of course in the future the timer can be tweaked according to the wishes of the players.

This game uses Civstats to track the turns and other info. This game is here. If you want to register via Civstats and claim your civ the password for each civ is "sirian."

From now on, please let me know if you have any technical concerns in this thread. I can be reached infrequently via forum PM, and easily via email at sunrise089 at gmail dot com and IM at sunrise089 on either AIM or GChat.

[It looks like there is a pretty good overview in the organizing thread, but if want anything here like team emails or rules just let me know]

  Double-Fun - pitboss game (14)
Posted by: plako - July 22nd, 2013, 01:14 - Forum: Pitboss 14 - Replies (463)

Maga_R and a group of other players most active in CFC (at the moment wink) would like to arrange a pitboss game at Realms Beyond. I think this is a great idea, so I promised to help them out to get the ball rolling. Game would be open for everyone to join. I'll make the map, Caledorn handles hosting and Maga_R organizing. This game would be played using our normal spoiler thread system.

Below is Maga_R's description about it.

---
We are organizing a friendly yet competitive game, “Double-Fun” Pitboss, to be played by teams of two players (2 players playing 1 civ), ideally with more experienced players pairing up with less experienced ones. Below are the settings we would like to play.

General settings:
Host: Caledorn
Mapmaker: Plako (with SevenSpirits help)

Start: Ancient
Speed: Normal
Turns: Simultaneous
Difficulty level: TBD
Barbarian level: Normal
Tech trading: Off
Events: Off
Espionage: On, with hostile Civic and Religion Switching Missions banned
Goody huts: Off
Choose Religion: On
Corporations: On
Nukes: Off
Vassal States: Off
Leaders: Unrestricted (snake pick, no duplicates, nothing banned)
Full diplo
Version: BTS 3.19

If you would like to join, please post, signing up as a pair, as an experienced player looking for a less experienced one or vice versa. Everybody willing is very welcome to join, although from pre-game inquiries it looks like we will have a shortage of experienced players willing to act as mentors. So if you know any such player, please invite them to play smile.

Pairs who already signed up (more Experienced/more Inexperienced player):
1. Team Mouthful - Lord Parkin / Arkipeller / Magno_uy (with WilliamLP dedlurking)
2. Team Blame Caledorn - YossarianLives / Caledorn (with Scooter and Old Harry dedlurking)
3. [Waiting for teammate's approval to post the name] - Slaze / Maga_R (with Jovan Kukic dedlurking)
4. Team Care Bears - Yuufo / Bisons
5. Team "My Little Marathon Cannibal Pony" Classical_Hero / Halvgud (tentatively?)
6. Bowsling / Aivoturso
7. Dick76 looking for a teammate

Sign up deadline: 8/8/13

Hopefully also:
Pindicator/?

Dedlurkers:
Qqqqqqq

Potential subs:
dratboy
Talonschild

Additional rules:
1) Every team will have their own spoilers thread – which hopefully be a lot of fun to read and have tons of useful into biggrin. In the (unlikely) case you would not love it, we would ask at least for updates on starting location, turn 10, 20, 50, 100 etc.
2) Every team needs a fancy/awesome/impossible-pronounce-or-remember name biggrin So start thinking now!

  The Personal Leader Traits thread
Posted by: Molach - July 21st, 2013, 16:25 - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (23)

At dinner just the other day I started thinking about leader traits...and which Civ Leader traits I have. This is me, as a person. So of the main list, which traits describe me the best? And what are the most popular personal leaders traits in the Realms Beyond?

BtS: Aggressive, Charismatic, Creative, Expansive, Financial, Imperialistic, Industrious, Organized, Protective, Philosiphical, Spiritual.
FFH users can include Adaptive, Agnostic, Arcane, Barbarian, Ingenious, Insane, Raider, Summoner. Adaptive/Insane/Ingenious should be 3rd traits, add one of them if applicable.

So who am I?

In BtS, my 1st trait is "Creative", no discussion about it. Second.....after having children, I notice a certain amount of "Protective"."Financial" is possible, I have some skill in maths so I should be able to transfer this to the world of economics but I've never had any interest in making money. "Expansive"...I have two kids and think that is pretty much enough. One more can be tolerated but that's it. However I ended up with "Philosophical". Debate issues for issues own sake, thinking about these big questions like "How can we eat", "Why do we eat" and "Where shall we dine" ...yeah, close enough.

So I am Pericles CRE/PHI of the Vikings.

In FFH...CRE/PHI/ADA would seem most fitting, even if my wife would call me BAR/RAI/INSANE. If I had to pick existing leaders, I guess I really am Shekinah...CRE/ARC of the....Illians or Doviello, winter people.

Aforementioned wife is CHA/ORG, by the way...so I'm married to Napoleon.

Last gasps of a dying civ (PB9 replacement)
Posted by: AutomatedTeller - July 16th, 2013, 18:49 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (2)

My computer is having fits and blue screens if I boot it outside of safe mode. I can't play PB from work, either.

My civ is on it's last gasps, so I'd assume that the time isn't much. if I can get the computer fixed, I can take over again if it's too depressing. (I'm really hard-selling this, aren't I?)

  Pitboss Login Info and Guidelines
Posted by: Sullla - July 16th, 2013, 13:30 - Forum: CFC Multi-Team Pitboss - Replies (1)

This thread explains how to log into the Intersite Pitboss Game, and some guidelines on what to do / what not to do once there.

How to Log Into the Game

First, you will need to download the Spanish Apolyton mod: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/6355677/WebMod1_0.rar

Next, you must put the folder in the correct place on your computer. On a Windows setup, this is as follows:

C: / Program Files / Firaxis Games / Civ4 / Beyond the Sword / Mods

This mod apparently doesn't run on Macs, so I guess those folks are just out of luck. Sorry.

When starting up Civ4, you must select the Custom option on the main menu, followed by Load a Mod:

Attempting to log into a Multiplayer game in the normal way will cause a crash, since you aren't using the mod's assets. From the above menu, select the Spanish mod, which is named WebMod1_0:

This will reboot Civ4 with the mod's assets in place. Now you can log into the Pitboss via the standard route, which is Multiplayer followed by Direct IP Connection:

Notice how the mod displays in the corner. If you aren't seeing this, then the game will not load. On the Direct IP screen, enter the login name (Realms Beyond for our team) and this IP number: 178.17.156.11

EDIT: The IP has since been changed to this number: 178.17.156.44

I think it would be nice if we all used the same Realms Beyond tag to log in, so that other teams have no idea which of us are playing the turn and logging into the game. Not terribly important, of course. Whatever you have typed in the top box is what will show up as our name when logging into the game. Leave the password box in the bottom corner blank.

On the Civ select screen, click on Pacal. We're #1 on this listing of civs, right where we belong. thumbsup You will have to enter our team password, which is as follows: MenOfDenile

Guidelines When Logged In

When you are logged into the Pitboss server, everything that you see is live. This is not a PBEM game where you can start over from the last save if there's a mistake. The only recourse from accidental moves is a full reload, which is a nightmare to avoid whenever possible. Be extremely careful when logged into the game.

What To Do In Game

* Do feel free to look around at cities, what tiles are being worked, where units are located, and so on.

* Do take screenshots and post them on the forums to illustrate what's going on.

* Do look at Demographics, the advisor screens, the bar graphs, and so on.

* Everyone should always feel free to look at the Demogame firsthand. Look, but don't touch...

What Not To Do In Game

* Do not move any units. This gets bolded and underlined for emphasis. Most past mistakes have come from accidentally moving units into the wrong position. A good suggestion when logging in is to click on the garrison unit inside the capital, and keep the interface highlighted on that guy. If you would move the unit by accident, it's a military police archer or whatever that doesn't really matter. Never, ever have the interface on a military unit or stack of units on the front lines.

* Do not change tile assignments or build queues in cities. The team generally agrees on what tiles to work for a reason. No matter how much you think that you see something better, do not act without the formal team approval.

* Do not engage in impromptu diplomacy on your own. It's fine to say "hi" to someone in-game or whatever, but anything important needs to get channeled through the diplo team. You can put the team into a very bad position very quickly otherwise, especially if you haven't been following our past conversations and agreements closely.

  PB11 Sub?
Posted by: Oxyphenbutazone - July 16th, 2013, 08:00 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (2)

I'm currently traveling and it seems that there are some incompatibilities between my hotel wifi and pitboss or something and I can not connect. I'll need a sub until thursday afternoon, when I will be back home. I can leave detailed instructions in my thread, the game is relatively early in its stages so turns should not take very long to play. Thank you in advance.
