How do you enjoy diplomacy in a civ game?
Posted by: Krill - January 9th, 2013, 12:08 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (20)

So a second poll, and extension of the PBEM/PB/MP game poll. I think this is perhaps a more divisive question thanthe game type one, so I'm going to try and leave open more poll options.

  Should we rename Alemanni?
Posted by: Sian - January 9th, 2013, 10:36 - Forum: CFC Multi-Team Pitboss - Replies (5)

been looking a bit around and i don't seem to find a clear consensus on this question (well ... lack of consensus would probably be closer to the truth) ...

reason why we should rename it : can hide that its a barbarian city that we capture, not waving around the fact that beyond being the strongest team we also nailed a free city so to speak

reason why we shouldn't rename it : by renaming it WPC and/or CFC could be let to believe that its a pseudo-pink dot, which may, may not result in them thinking that we're settleing overly aggessive towards them beyond what they believe they directly/indirectly argeed with us previously ('past the oasis' for CFC), with it being its original barbarian name it they would be able to see that we merely 'stumbled upon' it and used the military we had to grab it

Opinions for or against?

  Old Nick's Adventure 56
Posted by: Old Harry - January 9th, 2013, 08:20 - Forum: Civ4 Event Reports - Replies (2)

I hope I'm not too late - been laid low with the lurgy so couldn't play the last few turns until this morning - I promise I haven't read any of the other reports yet.

So this sounds like a lot of fun, I prefer nice easy games to struggles (I tried the Dutch Mazeters but didn't get very far!)

Our first decision is warrior or settler first - warrior for exploring it is.

t1 - got 78g from a hut
t9 - grew to 2
t13 - grew to 3, started a settler
t18 - popped a scout from a hut
t21 - second settler
t22 - settle Toronto
t29 - settle Montreal
t31 - 1t Stonehenge - we are charismatic after all...

t37 - Ottawa settled
t42 - Vancouver settled. Economy is down to break even at 0%. I may have expanded a bit quick. Lets get some cottages down...
t49 - The economy is back up thanks to gold and cottages
t70 - Moved the capital to Vancouver as it'll get a lot more commerce, sorry T-Hawk, but if I was Santa I'd definitely relocate.
t80 - I just seem to be going for every possible wonder. Lost out on the Oracle, going for TGL, Pyramids, TOA, The great wall.
t85 - got the great wall...
t86 - got alphabet and started trading things around - writing first
t87 - got the great lighthouse. Lets see how broken it really is? It looks like I'm getting about 30 gpt extra...
t90 - I'm going to declare on Freddie. I want Cologne.

t91 - Got the Temple of Artemis to help push borders against Ghandi and go with the Great Lighthouse. But even with TGL its still rubbish!
t92 - Got Cologne
t93 - Got the pyramids.
t104 - traded around code of laws, up to 14 techs now. Got the hanging gardens.
t109 - MOM
t111 - Declared on Fred again
t112 - great library
t114 - the sortie against Fred goes terribly. lost 6 axe and 2 sword. Will need to get construction to have another go...
t115 - start my first MOM golden age
t120 - I got research visibility on everyone, meaning I can gift techs to anyone who is 1t from finishing. Wish I'd thought of it earlier
t149 - Missed out on Religious Leader by 90 votes. This is a good thing as I want to end the game as near to 1600AD as possible so as to gift the maximum no of techs

t159 - declare on Hanibal - I want enough budhist cities that I can just call and win a vote about 1590
t161 - Lib Steam Power
t167 - got Taj, change civics to Nationhood, Free Market and Theocracy. Will draft some rifles...
t185 - taken all but one of Hanibals cities, but they are shrinking because Washington has cultural control, only one thing to do about that...
t189 - took New York
t208 - Apostolic palace is a return city vote, not allowing me to become resident and get a diplo victory so I'll go for domination instead
t217 - Up to 65% of land area, when Hamburgs borders pop I should win, so I've gifted as much tech as possible

t218 - 1540AD - We have a winner

I screwed it up a bit - I got elected religious leader this turn, and so could have gone for a religious victory just before time was up. So thats the extra techs over the next ten turns and the 5 bonus points I've missed out on. Ooops...

Really enjoyed playing this one, thanks T-Hawk!

  Looking for a Duel
Posted by: dazedroyalty - January 8th, 2013, 14:25 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (36)

I am missing playing MP civ and want to get back at it. I was sorely tempted by pitboss 9 but am not quite ready for that big of commitment. Instead, I think finding someone who wants to play a duel would be lots of fun and allow slightly more flexibility based on my schedule. I've had lots of fun playing duels against Scooter in the past. So I'm looking for someone who would like to start a PBEM Duel with me.

Thoughts:

-Mirrored map of some type
-Ancient era
-Normal speed
-I like random leader/civ but identical for both players (but I'm willing to negotiate)

I will commit to playing 1 turn/day (with occasional exceptions) but blitz sessions may be more sporadic based on my kiddos schedules.

Any takers?

  Ronald's Adventure 56
Posted by: Ronald - January 8th, 2013, 06:03 - Forum: Civ4 Event Reports - Replies (3)

In the spirit of Christmas, the more you give the better. Who gifts the most techs to the AI by 1600 AD

I wanted to enable tech trading asap, so I beelined very quickly to alphabeth (hunting, fishing, mining, mysticism, pottery, writing, alphabeth)

My first city was Christkindle for some research boost with the gold

and a double pink dot for Santa Claus and South Pole to grab as much land as possible:

By 1AD I had all the cities I wanted to settle and gifted already 42 techs

The biggest problem between 1AD and 1000 AD was to stop Hannibal to destroy Mansa. I bribed him 3 or 4 times to stop the war.
Here the situation at 500 AD:

Again, more gifting, making sure nobody gets hurt.

This is the gifting development:
1000 AD 60
1250 AD 95
1400 AD 110
1500 AD 121
1550 AD 139
1600 AD 197
The tech pace of the AI was so bad, it didn't matter when I gifted the techs. Only Mansa researched a few useful ones. I just had to make sure, that I started with mass gifting early enough, so that I could gift everything I had.

After the massive gifting and choosing the favourite civics of the AI, the vote was very easlily won.

Final score: 197 gifts + 10 for diplomatic victory: 207

It was a fun game, thanks t-Hawk for the holiday special.

  New race possibile?
Posted by: Horist - January 7th, 2013, 23:41 - Forum: Master of Orion - Replies (7)

With all the things I have watched people do on here, I was wondering if you could create a new race that would combine several or all ai strenghts together with no weaknesses. Impossible just isnt hard enough!

IE: The Orions. Abilities include
Sakkra pop growth
Klacklon production
Human trade bonus and relations bonus
Psilon research bonus
Meklar factories bonus
Bears/cats/birds/darlok/silicoid racial bonuses
Excellent or good in all techs

Or even some combination like a sakkra/klacklon hybrid
