I would like to host a game. My title for this game will be Siege of the Dragon. As could perhaps be guessed, this would take place in a fantasy setting.
Revealable Info:
there will be a dragon
there will be wolves
there are no bastard roles*
Most people will have a role of some kind; some typical roles, others variant roles. Roles will have various levels of utility.
I have heard that Uberfish plans on next hosting a Game of Thrones variant. Therefore if he wants to host WW17, then perhaps I could wait to host WW18 instead.
In any case, could I perhaps have a tentative sign up for Advisor-Collaborators?
Thank you!!
I will later contact Collaborators via PM
Potentially I would like 21 people to sign up, but I can deal with much less and much more

I suppose everyone has different definitions of what a bastard role is, even as generic as "I do not agree that such a role should exist" however by standard definitions, I believe that a 'bastard role' would be a role that either lies to the player or causes an alignment conversion. As far as 'lying' to the player goes, there is certainly no role that would do something the player did not intend to happen. ie: try to protect someone and they end up dying (poisonous doctor), or someone that tries to kill someone and ends up protecting them. Typically, if you have an idea of what your power is used for, you are probably right. As far as alignment changes go, there will be no forcible conversions of alignment- ie: 'the cult' or any form of succession of arsonists. If you are your alignment, and your role says nothing of changing alignment, you will NEVER change alignment. All power abilities and alignment related abilities will be known from the beginning of the game, so no late-game face-turn surprises about your OWN alignment or power. A sleeper would follow these regulations, as the sleeper himself would know of the potential for alignment change.
I was a huge fan of the original, played it all the way through. I played the first sequel, Terror from the Deep, most of the way through as well. The original Xcom ranks among my favorite games ever, and I have been quietly hopeful about this new version since I first heard about it while working on Civ5.
Based on the dev video (available on Steam) where the team talks about how they decided to do the base, and also based on other buzz around in interviews and whatnot, I took the plunge and pre-ordered. Nothing I've seen has rung any alarm bells for me, while much of what I've seen indicates they at least have tried to be faithful to all the best parts of the game while updating the graphics, UI, sound, etc. Perhaps more telling, I have jumped back off the MMO bandwagon -- skipping GW2 and the new WoW expansion -- in favor of concentrating on single player games, and this is my top anticipation of the season.
Preorders get a free copy of Civ5 (which can be given away to a Steam friend) and some in-game goodies for decorating your soldiers -- if this is a game you're definitely getting anyway, then might as well get the free extras. You have a couple more days, as of this post.
I'll post my thoughts once I have the game, for any who might be interested but want to wait for others to go first.
With the colossus of full-scale Modern Era MP war no longer looming, I find I'm in the mood for another light game. Would three others be interested in another of the tight AW games like 34? http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showpost....stcount=13
We'd need a mapmaker confident in making a rotational mirror too, I suppose. Settings I'm thinking:
Always War (CTON)
Raging Barbarians
Emperor difficulty
Map:
20x20 to 24x24 Tiny Toroid, a mirror like 34/42 designed with two different centers. Maybe a salt water body in one center for Moai/Colossus, etc fun.
See starts before picking.
Lakefood start (buffs fishing, gives at least one unchokable food)
Some form of CG3 guardian(s).
Bans:
Maybe India?
War Elephants
Spies
Statue of Zeus
Nukes
Great Artist bombs in cities below fifth-ring*
The 34 shadow I'm playing in has been great fun, a pretty fast game even now in the workers-have-pants era. Obviously I'm not in the super-leets or greens categories, but I think any vets or intermediates qualify for skill. Being able to play a sure 1t/day at least would be a must, but no need for the insane 100t/month rate of 34s here.
Players:
Commodore is DuGaulle of France
Sian is Hannibal of Mali
Slowcheetah is Pericles of China
BoldlyGoingNowhere is Willem of Orange of Inca

The Good King Wincas' lass was a wicked, wicked girl. She slew her elder brother on his tenth birthday by poison, and killed her younger brother at the age of three by drowning, and never was she caught. Now she is eighteen, and has bewitched all the king's horses and all the king's men...but King Wincas, last of all around him, has finally awoken to the danger. He has hired out mercenaries and retreated to his hunting lodge, taking on the identity of one of the mercenary company, and as heros work to overthrow his daughter, these guards are Good King Wincas' last hope. Now nothing could possibly go wrong...
The game itself is very simple. There are only 3 roles, and everybody will know what those roles are before the game. There are no night phases, as scum only has one kill that he can use whenever he wants. I think we can easily adapt it to RB tradition by having a 24 hour day phase before lynch, with day 2 starting as soon as day 1 ends.
Its a little bit of a reversal from ww, in that the town has all the "inside" information, and scum is in the dark. The roles:
1 assasin (the only scum)
You are the assassin. You have infiltrated the castle guard and are charged with attempt to kill the king. Victory is yours when the king is dead. At any point during the game (including immediately after your lynch), you may PM me the name of a player whom you wish to kill in a suicide attack. This attack will kill you and end the game.
You win when the king is dead, regardless of whether you are dead or alive.
1 king (town)
You are the king. You know that everyone else is not the king. However, there is an assassin who is trying to kill you. Your goal is not to let that happen.
You win when the assassin is dead and has used his kill and you still live.
Everyone else is a guard
You are a guard, charged to protect King ________. Your job would be too easy if there weren't an assassin trying to eliminate your poor king. You don***8217;t want that to happen, of course. You'd be out of a job.
You win when the assassin is dead and has used his kill and the king is still alive.
so basically a person is lynched every day until the assassin is caught and hangs. Then the assassin is able to use his one kill (yes he can use it even after he dies) - if he hits the king, he wins. Technically the assassin can use his kill at any moment (even in the middle of a day) if he is confident he knows who the king is.

how can I change the list of enchantment that can be put on items when I use
Enchant Item
Create Artifact
itemmake.exe
?
I know there are objects with "impossible" enchantment cast on them and I've already customized items with itemmake, I suppose the list of the allowed enchantments are stored in itemmake.exe and wizards.exe along with the required books.
Asfex reported a bug about gaining control of an enemy unit, the control appears undispellable.
By pure chance I get attacked and I could "experiment" with Confusion and Creature Binding.
Situation:
My city (no wall) with Nightblades and another unit is attacked by some Rangers. Both me and the AI are proficient in Blue magic.
Strategy:
I decided to keep the Nightblades away and cast Guardian Wind on the other unit, so the Rangers will move closer and fall prey of my Phantom Beast(s).
What happened:
AI casted Creature Binding and possessed my unit.
I waited until AI exhausted the casting capacity then cast Disenchant True removing all area enchantment, my Guardian Wind, but not Creature Binding.
So I used Confusion (with the help of Mind Storm) waited for my unit to align again with me and dispelled Creature Binding (along Mind Storm as well).
It worked.
A second shot finally dispelled Confusion (of course when the unit was under my control).
After winning the battle, the unit was still with me.
What can we conclude?
1. Dispel (and variants) cast on units (even temporary) aligned to enemy try to destroy beneficial spells and leave unharmed negative spells, strictly from the point of view of the unit, not the wizard casting dispel, neither the wizard that casted the enchantment on the unit.
2. Creature Binding and Possession are considered negative spells on enemy unit, so they are almost undispellable.
Fixing the bug.
It's not easy to fix this bug.
The first quick way to get around is to change the involved spells so they result "positive" spells instead of "negative" spells, where positive are spell that enhance the unit, like flame blade, haste. This should me marked somewhere I do not where...
This way you are able to dispel the controlling spell, along with any positive enchantment that unit could have...
In addiction other spells could interfere (I.E: Spell lock could protect the controlling spell).
I see no other solutions, right now.
Changing the dispell procedure to dispel the controlling spell could be difficult and wrong.
Example.
One of my unit has been controlled and the unit also has various positive and negative spells on it.
I have only skill/mana to try a single dispel.
What should the dispel do:
1. Try to dispel only the controlling spell? If I fail the unit and all positive enchantment on it will stay with the enemy.
2. Try to dispel the controlling spell and all positive spells? If I succeed in both I have my unit back, but with less positive spells.
3. Try to dispel the controlling spell and all negative spells? If I fail to remove the controlling spell, the enemy will keep my unit with less negative spells.
4. Try to dispel all negative and positive spells? ... and so on.
What if the unit has Spell Lock on it?
We can discuss what should be more close to the original spell, but it not really easy, so far it will be enough to put the controlling spell in the positive ones, so it can be dispelled.
There is one interesting option to implement: if a creature of mine is controlled by enemy, if I cast the same spell I dispel (or try to) the controlling enchantment only.
What do you think?
So ww16 looks like it will last for some time still. I thought it might be good to hold a scum-hunting mini-game for dead players to play while they wait for the game to finish. Sort of a consolation prize for those that die early. If it works, we could do this every game after so many people die, which would help alleviate the problem of the games getting bigger (and longer) and many of the same people frequently dying early.
There are a lot of mishmash games we could play on mafia wiki, but assassin in the palace seems a good place to start.

Technically the assassin can use his kill at any moment (even in the middle of a day) if he is confident he knows who the king is. Strategy wise, the assassin will want to stay alive long enough to figure out who the king is, while the town will want to kill the assassin asap to reduce his chances, while simultaneously trying not to give him any clues to who the true king is.
It doesn't really matter how many players we have, but I think 10-12 is ideal. We could easily do anywhere between 8 and 15 or even more, however. If we get enough sign-ups I'd love to start next Monday or Tuesday, but if not we can just keep the sign-ups open so as more people die in ww16 they can join, until we eventually have enough to start.
I'd like to keep the sign-up to dead players (or lurkers) only, as I don't want to distract from ww16 by having people playing both games.
Also, I'm going to put myself down as a player, as I'm hoping someone that doesn't want to play will volunteer to GM so I can play (all you need to do is random.org an assassin and a king, then give everyone else guard roles - and post results at lynch deadline. flavor is optional). But if no one volunteers to GM I can do so.

I am aware this is happening with some degree of regularity now but there's not a great deal I can do about it. I'm more than happy for you to replace me if you can find someone suitable and I will update them via either phone, Skype or email.
In the mean time, I'll continue to play as quick as I can. I aim to be home late Thursday. I tried to warn this may happen but continued playing this game as much as I could as quickly as I could as I had no replacement in line. If anyone is interested, get in touch and ill let you know the state of the empire as give you a save. You can then decide if you want to go ahead.
I have no proper computer access, but am happy to fill people in properly and thoroughly using any of the above.
SPOILER FOR PLAYERS IN THAT GAME:
I believe that the minimum position you will finish is second.
