Bugs in Space - A warm up for future imperiaists
Posted by: AlanSHB - December 29th, 2007, 13:22 - Forum: Master of Orion - No Replies

Hey all,

It's been a while since I had a working version of Moo, but I recently got dosbox hooked up again and decided to pull myself out of work long enough to play some when I noticed a comment about the imperia starting up again in 2008.

I've been playing a few games to remind myself how vicious the AI is, and enjoying them, when I stumbled across this map - and knew I had to share.

Here's the starting map, to whet your appetite.

Here's the thread on CF - http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=98

Feel free to give it a swing, I think you'll enjoy it.

I'm not sure who's hosting the next imperia, but I assume it won't be klackons, so I don't feel like I'm stealing your design space. If I did, I most humbly apologize.

UPDATE: ULGG wishes to Invite RB to this
Posted by: ladykingel - December 28th, 2007, 12:36 - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (17)

Greetings to you, most honorable members of RB...I send you warmest holiday greetings. I wanted to stop by and update as to what we are doing in the hopes that you might wish to be a part of this as honorable friends of the ULGG. Our ranks have grown and we are now likely the largest alliance in the world. LaZy Imperium just joined us with over 1000 members. We have set up corporate VENT and TS for many games and wish to have you as a part of this community effort. I am posting this email which I sent out to our leaders and friends so that you may know what we are doing.

We also just formed a ULGG Hellgate guild and we would love to have your Hellgate players join this effort. It will be hosted on the corp. ULGG TS server we have just set up. More information below. Feel free to email me with any questions. Sorry for the long post...but we wanted to give you the latest update. I send you each my personal best regards,
Kingel
**********************
Greetings all...

Dear ULGGer's and friends of the ULGG alliance:

I have some very exciting news to tell you. We have just had the Lazy alliance join our alliance. This has added over 1000 members to our already large group! I have spent quite a bit of time trying to get to know their leadership who are very mature, focused and well organized, and they have offered us something very special but we need everyone to be open to change to foster better gaming in a variety of games. I am particularly asking all of our leaders to stand behind this effort of change in how communicate with each other in the alliance, outside of alliance chat, which does not permit alliance to alliance gaming very easity. Our main goal is to foster a closer community and better gaming in many games; not just GW.

We are going to make some slight changes as to how we do things so we can game with many more people in guild wars and in all other games you might wish to play. Please read through this note carefully so you know what we are doing. We ask each of you to adopt this new gaming approach as we know from experience it fosters new friendships and adds to the gaming experience.

As we feel we truly need to help our alliance, and have more people to play with, we have arranged to provide the following to all of our alliance and honorable friends group.

Lazy is hosting a huge VENT server for the entire alliance for Guild Wars. This is a high capacity server with excellent sound quality!

The ULGG is hosting a huge TS server with high quality sound for all other games.

A. NOTE: The lazy VENT server will ONLY be for Guild Wars. we are in the process of setting this up.
B. the new huge ULGG TS server will be used for all other games. This has been very generously donated by Shi~ULGG for use by the entire alliance . This is already set up and you may register and email me with your game additions. Basically this will be like the AB server, if you are familiar with theirs. Our new server is huge and the quality is excellent. You may need to adjust your codecs downward to achieve optimum quality for your setup.

We are asking each GW's player to do the following as we are all going to start using VENT as our GW server. We ask that you download the VENT client...very simple to do, if you have not used VENT before. We ask that every time you log onto GW, that you log onto to VENT first and you can game with many others; hundreds of others. Lazy has over 1000 in its alliance. I realize that many of you only use alliance chat, but in order to foster better playing we are asking that you please switch over to automatically using VENT for GW and TS for all other games hosted on the TS.

1. Lazy will post what is required to register for their VENT---this will be coming shortly and I will send out an email to leaders for their posting.

2. Please download the free VENT client at the bottom of this email. You wil be given additional information later this week for registering on the LaZy server. There is a VENT link on the ULGG forum, as well. http://www.ulggofgw.com/

3.. The ULGG is providing our huge, corporate TS for all other games outside of GW's...so if you have a special game you wish to have included on our list...just email me. Again, for this to work it is important for our members to use these two servers as it will give you many more players to game with. We know this will take a while, but if we all use it..it will work fantastically, and offer many more gaming opportunities within our entire community.

4. Here is the Teamspeak information for all other games. Note---you may only give the password to members of the ULGG alliance. PW may NOT be given to siblings, children, friends or relatives who are not members of the alliance. Please do NOT post this on any open forums. Thanks much.

ULGG

PW: email me at ladykingel@Nc.rr.com

5. Games we have listed so far:

Hellgate
WOW
LOTR
NWN
CS

Feel free to email me with any others you want added.

6. VENT information:

Below is the quick download for Vent 3.0.1---in order to use the Lazy vent...you will need to have 3.0.1 installed. it does not work with previous editions.

http://www.ventrilo.com/download.php
Windows i386 - 32bit (Version 3.0.1)

Mac OSX 10.3 or higher - 32 bit (Version 3.0.0)
3.0.1 will be available in a few days.

Registration information for VENT will be forthcoming.

Please feel free to ask any questions you have. And please do contact me with games you wish to add to the TS server. Our thanks go to LaZy for their generous offer, and our special thanks go to our long time member Shi for his continued help and giving to the ULGG and the ULGG community of guilds.

With my personal best to all,

Kingel

  Interesting...
Posted by: Nystul - December 26th, 2007, 14:33 - Forum: Hellgate: London - Replies (6)

After working about 68 hours in 7 days a couple weeks ago (25 regular, 40 overtime, 3 double time) getting Christmas gifts hopefully to the right states, I bought a few for myself including HGL. I've tried out a few classes and just finished Act I with an engineer.

I have mixed thoughts on this game so far, with it being way too early to know whether it is going to "stick". My general impression is that they made a revolutionary game but botched the details. Hmmm, kind of like Neverwinter Nights in that regard.

It seems like the MMO genre is having a very negative impact on smaller scale games. A soldier with a huge ! over his head wants you to kill 15 munchkins so that he can then have you kill 10 kobolds, what kind of crap is this? At least you can't run through monsters or shoot bullets through walls as if they were all ethereal. (Can you walk through the ones that are ethereal?)

I need to play more before I comment on the 3D implementation. The random 3D levels are a marvel. What a disturbing feeling going through the tubes and having it be the same and yet different. So far it seems like they are underutilized. I'd like to be able to climb a fire escape ladder and pelt demons with grenades (or even better, have them do it to me). I'd like to shut the door of a small building and wait for demons to come charging in at my melee character (or even better, have them do it to me). Tactical use of the environment is a hallmark of both the turn-based roguelikes and FPS games, after all.

  Wintersday '07
Posted by: Lurker Wyrm - December 24th, 2007, 12:48 - Forum: Guild Wars - Replies (13)

Well, it's here again. Mostly the same as last year's celebration, but with the addition of a couple new quests using GW:EN's Secret Lair of the Snowmen.

This was our cape last year (iirc, it was in the old thread anyway):

We can either use the same or try something different, it's up to Hawk. Though now she can just use the guy in the hall to change the cape without having to find an emblemer in one of the major cities.

In any case, I think it'd be great for us to get together during the finale events, so we should pick a district to all hang out in. The LA events start on the hour with the Kamadan ones starting 15 min. after. Just remember there are 4 hats to get, so we'll probably need to do a bit of moving around.

Speaking of hats, it looks as though this year's hats are going to be based on the contest they had earlier; winners are posted here.

Well, see you in game and have a great Wintersday!

Yes, I am a hopeless sentimentalist at times. [Image: tongue.gif] Yes, I think that the best instrument of all is voice. [Image: nod.gif] And, yes, this particular offering was recorded in the year I was born. [Image: lol.gif]

So, with that in mind, may your days be merry and bright. [Image: smile.gif]

Hi

  Worst. Quest. Ever.
Posted by: theGrimm - December 18th, 2007, 01:37 - Forum: Hellgate: London - Replies (1)

(Well, excluding the buggy ones, of course.)

Cannon Street Rail. Fed-Ex-a-la-Hell.

Whoever came up with the idea of creating an immense sprawling level (or is that just my bad luck), with components which you can only carry one at a time, each one as far as possible from the beginning and each other.

"Oh, and how about we make it so the parts slow the character down to a crawl, so he gets to spend at least 15 minutes walking from one end of the dungeon to the other with absolutely no monsters to kill?"

I thought that sneaky use of the portal might save me the effort - create a returnable portal at the techsmith, then use a one-way portal to get to the returnable portal, but that bugged out - the techsmith didn't acknowledge the part, despite it clogging up my inventory.

I.Hate.

P.S. For what it's worth, the returnable portal trick works great for the Broker, who can be a pain to keep running to...

Bugged Quest - Slaughterbeast in Cheapside
Posted by: ShadowHM - December 17th, 2007, 10:40 - Forum: Hellgate: London - Replies (6)

Hi

CB-13 and I ran smack into this bug last night, so I did some searching today about it. A rough-talking NPC in St. Paul's Station asks you to kill the Slaughterbeast in Cheapside. Unfortunately for us, he failed to show up, even though we re-set the instance and thoroughly (and I mean thoroughly) searched for him both times. [Image: mad.gif]

There is a thread about it at the official HG:L forums. [Image: smile.gif] Apparently the Slaughterbeast will only spawn if the map is of a certain tile-set. The twisty windy corridor type (like Necropolis) will not spawn the Slaughterbeast. We will need an open hallway sort of map to spawn him. And, yes, the trash-talking NPC does have a slew of additional quests to hand out after the Slaughterbeast is, err... slaughtered. [Image: lol.gif]

The best way I can think of to accomplish this is tag-teaming on re-setting the instance until one of us gets the 'right' map, and then partying up. [Image: rolleye.gif]

Sad News: Terry Pratchett Comments on his "Embuggerance"
Posted by: WarBlade - December 13th, 2007, 15:27 - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (18)

Discworld fans have been given sad news from the man himself, Terry Pratchett. He left a public statement on Discworld artist, Paul Kidby's website, which I will quote here:

Quote:AN EMBUGGERANCE Folks,

I would have liked to keep this one quiet for a little while, but because of upcoming conventions and of course the need to keep my publishers informed, it seems to me unfair to withhold the news. I have been diagnosed with a very rare form of early onset Alzheimer's, which lay behind this year's phantom "stroke".

We are taking it fairly philosophically down here and possibly with a mild optimism. For now work is continuing on the completion of Nation and the basic notes are already being laid down for Unseen Academicals. All other things being equal, I expect to meet most current and, as far as possible, future commitments but will discuss things with the various organisers. Frankly, I would prefer it if people kept things cheerful, because I think there's time for at least a few more books yet :o)

PS I would just like to draw attention to everyone reading the above that this should be interpreted as 'I am not dead'. I will, of course, be dead at some future point, as will everybody else. For me, this maybe further off than you think - it's too soon to tell. I know it's a very human thing to say "Is there anything I can do", but in this case I would only entertain offers from very high-end experts in brain chemistry.

frown
