Hi guys. I don't know who setup the previous server, but there's been complaints about the quality of the previous voice codec. I've upped this.
I've setup a new server. Search for Drasca RB, ask in-game for the password.

Thoughts on the announced Expansion Pack |

As most of you are no doubt aware, Firaxis recently announced the first details regarding the upcoming expansion pack called Warlords. (link) to the front page of CivFanatics, which overviews the expansion.
While I'm absolutely thrilled with some of the things I've seen previewed for the pack so far, I've found that I'm of two minds with this:
On one hand, some of the new features of WArlords seem to be absolutely nifty - unique racial buildings, more unique units, more leaders, more more more everything!
On the other hand, I'm a little miffed at the news. I've gotten annoyed enough with some aspects of patch 1.52 that I've pretty much put my CIV on hold for the moment - I check the boards daily for some announcement of the long awaited patch. Instead, I see an announcement for the expansion pack. Now, I realize that just because people have been working on the expansion doesn't mean that the patch is being ignored, etc... however the perception to me is that the patch is being ignored in favor of a more direct revenue-friendly project.
I don't pretend to know or understand everything that goes on over at Take 2 or Firaxis any more than I pretend to understand high-order differential equations, but as one of my professors in college taught me: What you're trying to say is not necessarily as important as what other people perceive you to be saying. What I'm perceiving being said is that the now 3-4 month gap between patches with no official word on timelines or progress means that the team has moved on to bigger and better things, and that releasing the SDK and patch are not important. I don't believe that this is actually the case, knowing that developers are human beings who have busy lives and schedules, but again - this is the vibe that I pick up.
Of course, the day after I post this, the patch and SDK will probably be released, making me feel like a complete dope, but hey... gotta get the boards moving somehow, right?
Just a ramble on some of my thoughts on the subject - what are other people's thoughts on this issue?

I have flummoxed a few folks entering GW and discovering my controller (all worship the n52) is set for the wrong game by saying something along of the lines of âbe back in a sec, my dang controller is still set on m&bâ.
What is M&B?
M&B is Mount and Blade.

This is a funky funky tech-demo-mod-platform masquerading as a game beta. It is, erm, funky. The graphics are last-gen. The towns are barely functional. The initial tutorial fight for newbies is insanely hard for newbies. The area outside of town is only a large overall traveling map (that is really odd at first, but you get used to it. almost). The combat is sublime.
It is the anti-button-push-for-da-win. You have to manually block. You have to manually pick your attack stroke angle. And the mounted combatâ¦
Ah, the mounted combat.
The mounted combat is somehow insanely fun. Just insanely fun. Why donât other games have mounted combat?
Did I mention it was insanely fun?
Cantering across the landscape, gaining speed, couching your lance, and BOOM down the miscreant goes, pivot and raise your shield against arrows as you gallop off, get out of arrow range, turn, pick up speed, couch, and BOOM!
Ahhhhh.
Take off your armor, grab your bow, and ride circles around the enemy pouring arrows into the mob. I am a Mongol! Fear me!
OTOH, donât try to lance uphill, you run out of steam, and aiming is tricky downhill, and og help you if you run into the middle of a few foot soldiers and lose momentumâthey will drag you off your horse and beat you to death in a heartbeat.
Oh, and an incoming archer headshot will drop you, so you have to evaluate the risk/reward on keeping a shield up until the moment of lance impact and screwing up your aim, or running shield down and lining things up but risking the end-game head shot.
Oh man it can be addicting.
Twitch.
Demo is free and caps you at lvl 6.
Documentation is via the forum stickies only, and is almost helpful.
Full âgameâ is $14.
I have to go now, I have some lancing to do.

Factions weekend coming up |

There were a couple things I wanted to talk about for next weekend's event. First off, we should probably start organizing what we'll be doing over the weekend. Granted, I don't have a clue about what'll be going on (this is supposed to be a PvE focused preview, but I find it hard to believe that there won't be a ton of PvP stuff to do as well), so planning events and whatnot isn't really an issue, I just think it'd be good to figure out who'll be on and around when, so we can maximise our time together. I plan to be on as much as I can, probably around 2-3 pm each day and staying on until 2am or so, with time-outs for food and that sort of thing, or to just take a break (probably between 5 and 8 and when need be). Yeah, it's a bit excessive, but I want to try and unlock as much stuff as I can during the event so I have less to worry about when the release comes around.
The other thing I wanted to discuss was that since this event is invitation only, this might be an opportunity to get some of the other people from RB involved (i.e. Gris, Sirian), even if it's only for a weekend. There's probably a bunch of people from the other RB game forums who might want to try the game out as well, so this could be a good time to try and increase membership on the ever-declining GW front.

The Science/Wealth/Culture Slider |

I was just wondering how people would feel about, as well as keeping the existing slider - you were also able to change the rate within individual cities. Unless you have a Holy City, running research at anything over 70% can make Wall Street far less useful, since so little commerce is being converted to gold. When you build research, culture or beakers, is this the equivilent of setting the slider to 100% in that city?
Another example of when this might be useful - three of your cities have been captured in a war against another nation, and after a brief period of peace, you are again at war. These cities will gain extra unhappy faces due to the nationality of the citizens. Increasing the culture slider in this city would be very useful as it would allow you to keep overall research going, without it grinding to a halt just to keep those three cities opperational by increasing the culture in all cities.
I know that this would add to the micromanagement, something that Civ 4 has tried to cut down on from previous versions, but would it not also allow more scope for strategy? I certainly feel that my empire is not always opperating at its optimal capacity when I'm playing because you can never get maximum use out of both Wall Street and Oxford University.
When going for a cultural victory, this would allow you to emphasise culture in your three legendary contenders, while still allowing science to continue across your empire - and you wouldn't need to shut off research for the final push (hence making you more vulnerable to attack, with outdated units). After all, how likely is it that a civilization reveared for its culture would be a century behind everyone else in the world technologically?
Appologies if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find anything on it. I just wondered what everyones thoughts on this were. Don't get me wrong, this is not a major complaint. I love Civ, and will continue to do so, but it is a minor annoyance for me. What are your opinions on this?

Quote:Due to a server error, Guild Wars experienced an unintentional reset of the traders. For nearly an hour, traders were selling items at unrealistically low prices. Due to the harmful impact that such an event would cause to the game economy, we are rolling back the entire state of the game to shortly before the problem began, that is, to 1:00 p.m. Pacific Time, 21:00 GMT. We estimate that the game will be accessible at approximately 8:30 p.m. PST tonight (04:30 GMT).
Go watch a movie ;p
