Any opinions on D3 Reaper of Souls?
Posted by: haphazard1 - May 10th, 2019, 22:48 - Forum: Diablo - Replies (15)

I was curious about whether any of the Diablo vets here at RB had opinions on the Reaper of Souls expansion for Diablo 3? I had played Diablo 3 back when it first came out, and completed the game on normal but never proceeded much further into the higher difficulties. The game was enjoyable enough on normal but the scaling did not seem to work properly at higher difficulty levels. (Note that at that time I had never played D1 or D2, so had little basis for comparison. Just a gut feeling that something was not right.) I never used the auction house back when it was an obvious pay-to-win scheme to suck up additional money for Blizzard, and without it the drop rates for better gear were so low as to make progression a real chore.

I understand that a lot of things were adjusted in later patches after I quit playing D3, and then later still the Reaper of Souls expansion was released. But I don't know many details, and was curious if anyone had thoughts on the current state of the game?

Do the Chinese people currently consider Mao Zedong to be evil or a hero?

I was sure not expecting to see this graphic when I was getting my daily dose of Quora, in an answer to the question, "Do the Chinese people currently consider Mao Zedong to be evil or a hero?"

That was one TLDR answer from some PHD guy, maybe someone among ourselves?

How exactly does super strong ghoul strategy work?
Posted by: occasionalplayer - May 8th, 2019, 04:42 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (4)

Sapher played it once - lure monsters to your strong city - ghouls with focus magic, heavenly light, guardian and behind city walls.
I know this has been nerfed since there are no longer rare monsters, or less frequently. But might be interesting with uncommons. How exactly do you do it though?

  Comet Bug?
Posted by: Cyneheard - May 5th, 2019, 22:43 - Forum: Master of Orion - Replies (4)

So a weird thing happened in a recent Klackon game (playing kyrub's patched version):

- Silicoids grabbed a Radiated world near me, that I slowly proceeded to bomb into oblivion. So far so normal.
- While I was bombing said world, the Comet never destroyed the world nor went away
- I'm pretty sure (would have to check saves) that the Silicoids even resettled the world after the comet would have passed.
- Even holding a Huge Megabolt ship over the uncolonized world for years didn't change anything.
- it was 40-50 years later and the world still had COMET over it but was still Radiated and could be settled.

I've attached a few saves from the game; 176 is the last turn before I won and didn't feel like mopping up everyone else. I can go digging to find the best years if we think it's a useful bug to investigate.

Neutral city strategy - how is that?
Posted by: occasionalplayer - April 30th, 2019, 15:35 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (3)

I was thinking the following:
With a war bear, resist elements, wraith form and earth lore, you should be able to conquer most neutrals very quickly. I assume that on lunatic, that is not fast enough. However, on advanced I won with this rather smoothly.

A good setup might be: just two death books and the rest nature. As retorts: perhaps alchemy, archmage.

Any thoughts on what might be the best strategy in this mold? You could of course try gnolls (meaning you would not net bears), but then you have a crappy race.
Thank you!

Question Realms Beyond Suggestion Box
Posted by: BRickAstley - April 30th, 2019, 07:12 - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (15)

I'm gradually gaining time to engage more here on Realms Beyond. So I wanna resurface the question of what could I be doing to help support you the community more, whether that looks like upgrades/changes to the forum software, support for trying to get any specific game events/communities jumpstarted, or anything else really. What's on your mind?

**Also, if you have any big pictures desires or ideas for what RB could be, this is a good spot for those as well. I am certainly in no mood to try and grow the RB userbase just for the sake of growth, but anything that would help focus and reach out to the types of people who might want to come here anyway, sounds like an idea worth entertaining to me.

  Fog of War2-- SuperBomb?--Spoilers
Posted by: superdeath - April 23rd, 2019, 22:19 - Forum: Wargroove - Replies (13)

Fresh off my victory of the last FFA FoW map, im hype for this map. Its interesting to say the least, each player has a very easy ROAD access to 2 players, and mountains/cross map separate the other players. Im opening with my commander ( sparrow bombs, spawns 2 bombs that deal 50% of commanders dmg at full hp. So, together they are a "free" hit. Only in a 1tile cross around the bombs. ) capturing a town, and planning on capturing another next turn. I built a swordsman to head east and capture 2 towns and a barracks before CH can rush down there and take it from me. I built a dog to check my "close" flank to my west, and keep an eye on movement there. Plan is pretty easy, save money, build treb. Protect treb, ???, win.

The plan is a bit more detailed than that however, Im hoping to contain Scooter ( to my west ) with some easy dog/treb combos. Setup a swarm of spears/knights + a support treb on the eastern front, and then CHARGE into CH and break him. This map has alot of concentrated income, so unless someone gets slapped alot on both fronts, i dont see anyone dying before t15. 500 gpt from just what you start with is NUTZ. Ill be very curious to see how the other players handle having direct easy road access to each other. I figure that will mean more wagons/trebs/ballistas than we have seen. OH, almost forgot to mention, there is only 2 air towers on this map. Im very likely going to capture/keep CH from keeping the one nearest me. If i dont have to worry about flying units, then i dont have to build ballista/mages. :D So i can focus on dogs, trebs, archers, and the rest of the $ is going into a battalion of spears.

[SPOILERS] Woden gets swept away by the Gathering Storm in PBEM15
Posted by: Woden - April 23rd, 2019, 09:24 - Forum: Civilization 6 PBEM 15 - Replies (133)

Choices:

Woden (CDT)
Phoenician
Persian
Polish
English
Khmer

Khmer, Poland, and England are meh and are out. The only real choice is between Phoenicia and Persia. Dido would be interesting on a water map, where you can spam Harbors and Settlers, but we are on a Fractal map and may not get a watery start. I think Persia is the only real option here. Their unique improvement will help with early culture, which has been shown multiple times to help with getting a winning edge. Their unique unit will be helpful if there is an opportunity for early aggression.

I will go with Persia!
