  EitB Civilopedia Updates Thread

So I figured rather than continuing to spam the EitB Update thread below, I'd create a new thread just for 'pedia stuff so we can spam this thread instead!

There are still lots and lots of background/story/description entries that need filling in. I've copied Qgqqqqq's lists from the aforementioned thread, added a list for leaders, and struck through everything we've completed recently. I'll try to keep this up to date as more entries are written!

  The Post-AH Era (for D3)
Posted by: Sirian - June 19th, 2014, 16:23 - Forum: Diablo - Replies (7)

Blizz sent me an email today saying they are shutting down the D3 AH next week, and to come claim my items off it. ... I haven't touched the game since 3 weeks after release. I guess I had some expired AH items?

Anyway, in theory, the removal of the entire AH could have drawn some interest for me, if not for two things: 1) the core design is still ridiculously oversimplified, with only weapons and two stats on armor making any difference. 2) I've heard they've gone too far the other way and it's now Monty Hall time, raining legendaries.

D1 had some unpleasant farming aspects to it if you wanted to get your Hell/Hell gear up to a non-variant level -- all those trips to Wirt, etc -- but it was worth it because the gameplay of actual combat was so elegant, so fun.

Is anybody in these parts still playing D3? I'd be curious to hear opinions on the post-AH state of the game, once someone gathers enough experience with it to form an informed opinion.

Hilariously bad strategy video from 1995
Posted by: Tiltowait - June 19th, 2014, 04:09 - Forum: Master of Magic - Replies (9)

This is from a CD-ROM games magazine that came out in 1995. The reviewer bashes Alchemy as worthless, endorses Divine Power, and says that Mana Focusing is an important pick. Node Mastery is the best pick in the game! I guess someone got a bit frustrated getting spells counterspelled in nodes. Note the title screen at the beginning: v1.1!

The ultimate wizard, according to this guide?
Warlord
Channeler
Famous
Charismatic
Node Mastery
1x Life
1x Chaos
1x Nature
1x Sorcery
Halflings

Well, you can't go wrong with Halflings + Warlord, so it's not all bad. This wizard won't be casting many spells, though.

At 8:40 the reviewer recommends Halfling Shamans and trashes Slingers as "undergunned for their cost and lack staying power." lol 10:40 the best unit in the game? Elven Longbowmen.

GUIDELINES FOR PLAY (adapted from this)

(1) You win the game by:

* Improving your Civilization.
* Exploring how the game works.
* Surviving.
* Sharing your knowledge and experience in the forum.
* Achieving a victory condition

(2) No talking (AI Diplo).
(3) No city trading/gifting of any sort.
(4) Maintain a brisk turn pace:

If life prevents you from playing your turn on time, post in the tech thread requesting a pause. Remember that a multi-player game is a shared project - playing well means playing well with others.

That said, please pause the game if you notice the timer running low - even without an official request. Life happens and "Always Connected" is a poor way to live. It's better to pause now than to inconvenience the pitboss host with a reload. It's better to reload than punish a player.

Work together to keep the game healthy.

(5) The turn timer is not a tactical tool:

PEACETIME
* When relevant, don't play twice before your opponent can move once (double move).
* Try to play your turns consistently and at a convenient time for other players.
* End your turn as soon as possible, signaling that you are done moving units.

WAR
* Don't inconvenience yourself or others in order to establish a turn-split.
* Don't double move when war is declared.
* Maintain a consistent turn-split for the duration of the war.
* It is permitted to coordinate a turn-split with your war opponent.
* If it's your opponent's half of the turn, don't take any in-game actions.

If you have doubts, ask. Games are not law courts; your behaviour defines the game.

(6) Have fun and help your fellow players have fun.

Anyone ever used ClickTeam stuff back in the day?

  I Have an Adventure Idea
Posted by: LexiSilva - June 17th, 2014, 16:24 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (26)

I'm really not sure if it has been done before in the time between it not being posted on the RB site and me joining, but here is an idea:

"Get On Your High Horse!"

The only military you can build is Mounted Units (Horse Archers, Knights, Cavalry, etc.)

I'm not sure if this is possible (or a good idea), but who knows! crazyeye

So my bellybutton is cleaned of lint and rereading the Alae PB and PB11 reminded me that good games are good. I'm full on games but have time to mapmake. Anyone been itching for something?

  Imperium 41 - A Radical Experiment
Posted by: RefSteel - June 16th, 2014, 23:12 - Forum: Master of Orion - Replies (2)

In case anyone (like me) missed seeing White Mage's game thread in the Tournament Reports and Discussion forum, here's an announcement that it's there!

White Mage's game setup is radically different from anything we've ever done in an Imperium before - not just in the variant rules (we've had way crazier) and not just in its permission of game exploits we've traditionally forbidden (our early Imperia had no rules on those at all) but in the way he wants participation and reporting themselves to work. So this is a huge departure and a potentially exciting experiment in different ways of running these games!

I admit that I would never even consider setting up a game the way White Mage has - but "the way I would do things" is by no means synonymous with "the best way to do things," and since White Mage has put in the effort to set up and post a game (which no one else, conspicuously including me, has managed to do in the past few months) I'm happy to give his method a chance!

So check out his thread, and if you like what you see, have at it!

If I'm reading it correctly, everyone who signs up, finishes, and sends White Mage the files he requested by 3:40 GMT on August 12th will be counted in the tournament, so it's definitely not too late!
