Don't post until I open the game on the 10th! Post in the other thread if you have questions.
Seven Deadly Rules:
1. Don't cheat. You will be judge and punished by me. Cheating includes editing posts and reading the wolf or lurker thread. (Edit: Added other way to cheat @ post #155.)
2. Deadline is at 3pm Midwestern time. Day start. Days are two days long while nights are one day long. If you stuff in a vote at the last minute the forum clock will be the judge--3:00 counts as "in" while 3:01 counts as "out".
3. Wolfs win when they kill everyone or nothing can stop that from happening (they don't win just because the numbers are even). Due to the tiebreak-rule they would win if they enter a day with even numbers anyway.
4. Tie-break rule. Players may vote 'no lynch'. "No lynch" always wins on tiebreaks. (Super-late edit: I would now say for the first 24 hours only to prevent a tactic the wolfs thought about using at the end of the game.) If there are multiple people tied for first subtract off the latest votes until someone dies.
5. If you don't vote for two days you will be removed from the game with a loss (and a gory death scene). Voting "no-lynch" counts as voting.
6. If the game reaches an impasse it will be declared a draw. I would give a warning.
7. Don't post after deadline until I make the lynch or night-kill post. You may make one "goodbye" post that doesn't help your team. If I go AFK the deadline is still the same.

If you plan to backup it's okay to read this thread. There are no true spoilers until someone dies and by then it's too late to replace someone.
This game will be drama free so I won't have to do anything...a bit disappointing but oh well. The worst I can think of is someone going AFK and just eating a lynch but that has happened many times before...
For how long should you build housing in a new city? When first started, it's an outpost and can do nothing but build housing. (From the game's perspective, what is an outpost, anyway?) I always start building whenever a city reaches pop 3. I curse myself if I don't catch it on the turn it grows, as my builders halls will just arrive that much later. I'm not sure how I arrived at the "pop 3" conclusion, although I remember it being based on sound logic. Maybe it was old USENET wisdom from comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.strategic.
Hey y'all. I picked up CK2 a few months ago after a few people here recommended it, and I've been really enjoying it. There were a few let's plays, with varying degrees of flavor v. pure mechanics, in the past at RB - I know that Cyneheard, Pindicator, and BRick all reported games, but the more recent of these were "borked" for various reasons. Since quite a few expansion packs have also been released since then anyway, the game has changed a fair amount, even though I don't actually own any of the expansion packs (btw, I love the way that Paradox uses Steam to add parts of each expansion pack to the vanilla game; for example, the map now stretches to India even if the player does not own Rajas of India).
Anyway, CK2 is a grand strategy game, similar in heart to CIV, where the player leads a noble dynasty through the Middle Ages, using military, diplomacy, intrigue, and more to expand his or her empire! Unlike may other games, there are no specific winning conditions, and setting one's own goals is part of the fun. It's also pretty hard to actually lose the game outright, so hopefully we'll be in for a long ride, even if things don't go as planned, which they rarely do.
So, I thought that it would be fun to run a let's play here, with you guys choosing as whom I play! I thought of a few interesting starts that I haven't yet played, and a brief description of each follows, but feel free to suggest other ones. I'll be mostly making this a mechanics and strategy-based introduction to the game, and won't be writing much flavor. Also, I'm still learning some of the more detailed interactions in the game, so if anyone has suggestions on how to play or specific decisions, they are more then welcome!
-I'm temporarily having trouble grabbing screenshots at the moment, so I will add those later. My apologies.-
Option 1: My real-life ancestor Earl Domnall Ua Néill Noígiallaich of Oriel (county in Ireland), Stamford Bridge start (15 Sept. 1066). The classic beginner's game, Irish counts are great because they control small, independent realms, but are surrounded by equally small to slightly larger realms (the much larger England is being invaded by both Norway and William the Bastard, so they'll be busy for a while), so they don't have to fear being immediately overrun. There is certainly a lot of fun in turning a single-province county into a kingdom. This would be a fairly focused and small-scale game, at least at first, and would probably be the most difficult out of any of the options here.
Option 2: One of the five Russian dukes at the Stamford Bridge start (Kiev, Novgorod, Rostov, Ryazan, and Polostk). Surrounded by pagans, having claims on the other fours' titles, and having connections to Poland and the Byzantine Empire, a game here would be filled with war from the the beginning. Things can get complicated here very quickly, but the potential to form Rus and/or Ruthenia, followed by the Russian Empire is great. Later, can we survive the Mongol hordes?
Option 3: One of the more powerful vassal dukes of the Holy Roman Empire at the Stamford Bridge start, especially Duke Otto II of Bavaria or Duke Vratislav II of Bohemia, who can fairly easily form the (still vassal) Kingdom of Bohemia. There is a whole intrigue and faction subset of the game that one rarely experiences when independent. In addition, the Holy Roman Empire's laws are lax enough to allow lots of warring without the Emperor's permission. Note: Even though the Empire is an elective monarchy and I could therefore get myself elected Emperor moderately easily within a few generations, I don't really want to do that unless I end up de facto owning most of the Empire. I'd much rather explore other options, like attempting to become independent.
Option 4: King Harold II of Godwin of England, Stamford Bridge start. Can England successfully defend itself against Harald Hardråde and William the Bastard? If so, we'll be in a powerful, but not dominant position, with possible expansion into the rest of Britannia (Scotland is the main rival, and a fair bit weaker), but still much smaller than France or the Holy Roman Empire. This game will involve war from the very beginning, and on a large scale.
This is my first succession game, and I am glad to be hosting it!
This is a venture into old Vanilla CivIV, and a variant at that! The goal: Spread a late game religion (No HinBudJew the Magnificent) as far around as possible.
Map: Fractal, Standard, NO CITY RAZING. We cannot purge religions on this world!
Civ: Qin Shi Huang of China
Prince Difficulty, an easy game for most of us (not me).

We must respond within 24 hours, and then report within 48 hours of posting. IF you don't post within 24 hours, a lurker may play their turn; first to post plays. Same rules apply.
Inspired by a combination of nostalgia and human stupidity, I'm proposing a PBEM using just basic Civ IV. Embrace a simpler, more earnest game of Civ, from a time when Spain was Nerf Plz OP, Asian leaders weren't universally aggressive psychopaths or paranoid isolationists, the Native Americans were represented by barbarian city names, and invading Iraq still kind of seemed like a good idea.
Proposed Rules:
* No leader / civ bans! There is no "unrestricted leaders" setting, so take India if you're okay with forgoing Financial. Want to be Fin / Org? Hope you're happy playing as America, you poor sucker!
* AI Diplo ~or~ one diplo message allowed per turn, no NAPs, email only (Final Destination) ~or~ Public Diplo in a Bantery Thread. I DON'T CARE.
* Other stuff.
I kind of doubt enough people will want to join this, but hey nothing ventured, nothing gamed.
If you are for some ungodly reason torn between participating in this or the new FFH game I proposed which only needs one more player, please join that game instead.
When green is all there is to be
It could make you wonder why, but...
Why wonder? Why Wonder?
I am green and it'll do fine
It's beautiful!
And I think it's ... what I want to be
-- Sakkra poet
After settling nearby Morrig I built a few long range destroyers to keep the AI away from nearby worlds, and after finishing my industrial development I started work on a Huge long range colony ship to get to Rayden.
^ Big colony ship, 2339.
I bearly beat the Bulrathi in the race for Tyr, the Poor world to the west of Rayden. They sent a colony fleet that arrived at the same time as my colony ship, but fortunately they only brought a single fighter as escort, and had to retreat from my long range destroyer.
^ Bulrathi forced to retreat.
Not long after I managed to get hold of range 5 tech by trading with the Humans. This allowed me to settle Collassa, Kronos, and eventually Regulus, to the east. By the time my colony ship got to Collassa a large Meklar fleet was already en route for the same world, but my ambassador convinced the Meklar ruler to back down.
I also managed to settle Drakka, to the south-west.
After that it was just a matter of buckling down and keeping the AIs from becoming too strong. I used a lot of threats, which led to a lot of wars. Which wasn't too bad, because it let me exterminate the AI colonies from my area of space, and I even killed a few AI super-fleets by cutting off their supply lines. The AI didn't target my worlds much. The only exception was Collassa, which got erased quite a few times by Meklar fleets. But I rebuilt every time, if nothing else to give them a target for their next attack...
The problem was the elections. It took some effort to avoid a diplomatic loss. The Sakkra, Humans and Silicoids had similar numbers, and would take turns being up for election. The Humans were my buddies and at almost constant war with the Silicoids, so Sakkra vs. Silicoids in the senate was safe. The same could not be said for Sakkra vs. Humans. In one case I had to trick the galactic census takers by sending millions of my people into space, making the Silicoids and the Humans the most populous races for just long enough.
As the game progressed I managed to capture Crypto from the Meklar and Marette from the Alkari. I had a killer fleet en route for the green Silicoid world Neptunus when favorable diplomatic conditions and some last second peace treaties won me the election against Humans.
^ Overview of race standings right before elecion in 2525. Bulrathi were wiped out by Humans in 2488. Humans have a lot of worlds, but many are recently settled and vulnerable.
I am Ozzee and I have been more or less silently lurking RB for two years now. I have been enjoying many of the threads and i want to shout out a big "Thank you" to all the active, reporting players. I like how you guys are bugged out about stuff but you never lose the generally positive "keep the RB thing - whatever that means - going" attitude.
Thank you & Cheers.
Ozzee
ps: I encourage other silent lurkers to say cheers, or something alike
Okay, I need serious help with a game (Vanilla CivIV) I am playing. It's a small Pangaea, on Noble difficulty (yeah, lame, I know :/)
I am the Queen of England Elizabeth, and I rule a small empire including Seville (conquered from a war with Spain to curb power), and Satsuma (culture flipped, like 5 turns after it was founded!). I was recently at war with Spain, and currently fighting Toku (he declared first!) and fought him back to his capital.
At this point, I can't turn back to stop Toku's constant horse archer raids (too many turns), nor can I capture the capital (too many units). My economy is good, but I have no friends since I had to cancel deals with my buddy Alex to prevent Spain from raiding me.
I have no clue what to do. I'm handing over the throne to the next Noble of England!
