I'll throw this in here.

I've been playing The Pinball Arcade, recreations and emulations of lots of real pinball tables. I'm pretty good too, in the top 10 on the leaderboards on most tables, and by some ranking measures #1 overall.

I'm trying some streaming for the pinball audience tonight, about an hour from this post. http://www.twitch.tv/vikingerik78

  PBEM 57 Postgame Thread

Well, that was fun.

I'll have more thoughts later, but really, awesome game there Ox, and good solid defending Queeg/Ruff, borders were going to be static for a long long time. I had fun, for all that I screwed the pooch in several places; I think I show pretty clearly how *not* to use an early golden age. Ox, you took the right trait for this map and used it well; Phi is just so huge with these limited tiles. Nobody really made a mess of things/fouled up, good game all.

  Sign-ups for WW32 (a mafia game) - 3 open spots
Posted by: zakalwe - April 14th, 2014, 11:43 - Forum: Werewolf Archives - Replies (100)

1. What is mafia?
It's originally a psychological party game for live play, based on deceiving and reading other players. Wikipedia link. It has been adapted for forum play, where it remains a game of psychology, but the focus shifts from reading body language to relying on deduction, intuition, and interrogation. Rhetoric also plays an important part, so in a sense it is also a game of debating. It's fun! But it can also take an emotional toll, particularly if you don't approach it with the right attitude. On this forum, we have primarily played mafia with a "werewolf" theme, but it's the same underlying game. (Instead of a town terrorized by the mafia, the werewolf theme features a village haunted by werewolves.)

2. Setup for this game.
We'll be using a semi-open 13-player setup called C9++. It introduces some randomness about the exact setup, but the set of potential roles that may exist is known, reducing the need for meta-speculation.

3. Moderator.
The game will be hosted and moderated by MJW. The game will start on Saturday, May 10th.

4. Sign-ups (10/13).

Original post:
I'm starting to feel up for another round of scumhunting / deception. Anyone else share my feeling? (I've noticed that the average post size in various popular threads has grown alarmingly, lately...)

I'd be up for a traditional, open setup. Or whatever...

  Translation Help
Posted by: Ichabod - April 12th, 2014, 19:10 - Forum: Off Topic - Replies (6)

I'm reading a biography of Immanuel Kant in english and I'm having difficulty to understand a certain passage. So, maybe someone can help me.

Here's the passage:

"He defined sensibility as 'the receptivity of the subject through which it is possible that its representative state be affected in a certain manner by the presence of an object,' and intelligence as the 'faculty of the subject through which it is able to represent things which cannot by their own nature come before the senses of their subject'".

The bolded part is the one I'm having a problem with. Is this "come before" being used in a "temporal" meaning, as in "precede", or is it being used in a "spatial" meaning, as in "things which cannot by their own nature be subject to/be experienced by the senses of their subject"? The second meaning could work in the way I'm translating it to portuguese, but I'm not sure if english actually allows it (and I'm not sure if I'm making myself understandable here lol ). It'd be like using "come before" as in the sentence "I came before the king and asked to be named a knight", I guess - which I'm not sure if works too.

I can't really understand what the sentence means if the "temporal" meaning is being used, but I'm a bit afraid that the "spatial" meaning, as I understand it, is not what's there to be understood. It's probably a case of just lack of knowledge on the topic, but I wanted to make sure.

Sorry for the confusing explanation. I don't know a lot about philosophy and it gets worst when I try to read it in another language.

[Tech Thread] For Tech Thread Threads of Tech
Posted by: Commodore - April 10th, 2014, 13:28 - Forum: Pitboss 19 - Replies (313)

This is the IT and Tech Issues Thread for RBP19, the newest 'vanilla' pitboss game here at Realms Beyond.

The game is now live. If this is your first time connecting please read this entire post carefully. Text in Red will be of interest to veterans.

Access the game via DirectIP connection to sunrise089.dyndns.org:2061. No password is needed (nor will one permit a successful connection) when connecting to the game. Make 100% sure there are no spaces in the field or you'll get an error. Spaces love to crop up unexpectedly, so please double-check this before posting that you can't connect.

The first time a player logs into the game they will be asked to set and confirm a password. This is non-trivial to change, so please make sure you know what it is, can remember it, etc.

In-game you can play as normal. This game is played via simultaneous turns, so you can queue unit actions and builds like normal, even after you end turn. I get asked sometimes, so I'll note you press TAB to chat in-game. When you're done playing please log out via Exit to Main Menu, not Exit to Desktop (which can create connectivity/lag issues).

I have set a 48 hour timer per team for the first turn. Starting next turn the timer will switch to 24 in-game hours. Of course in the future the timer can be tweaked according to the wishes of the players.

This game uses Civstats to track the turns and other info. This game is here. If you want to register via Civstats and claim your civ the password for each civ is "sirian."

From now on, please let me know if you have any technical concerns in this thread. I can be reached infrequently via forum PM, and easily via email at sunrise089 at gmail dot com and IM at sunrise089 on either AIM or GChat.
