Anyone up for another one?
EDIT: Borrowing Zakalwe's signup-post from last game:
1. What is mafia?
It's originally a psychological party game for live play, based on deceiving and reading other players. Wikipedia link. It has been adapted for forum play, where it remains a game of psychology, but the focus shifts from reading body language to relying on deduction, intuition, and interrogation. Rhetoric also plays an important part, so in a sense it is also a game of debating. It's fun! But it can also take an emotional toll, particularly if you don't approach it with the right attitude. On this forum, we have primarily played mafia with a "werewolf" theme, but it's the same underlying game. (Instead of a town terrorized by the mafia, the werewolf theme features a village haunted by werewolves.)
2. Setup for this game.
We might be using a semi-open 13-player setup called C9++. It introduces some randomness about the exact setup, but the set of potential roles that may exist is known, reducing the need for meta-speculation.
3. Moderator.
The game will be hosted and moderated by Jowy. The game will start on TBD.

Testing New Software |

I use Acronis 2009 for my home backup system. It involves incremental, nightly runs onto an internal hard drive, copying results to an external drive and periodic swapping of the external drives to work (ie offsite storage).
It works for me and I don't want to mess with it.
BUT ... Acronis 2009 is over 5 yrs old. I want to test the new version (2014) to see if I should upgrade. Acronis will not install with an old version of the software and I am not about to uninstall just to test the new version.
So ... I am thinking that I can create another Windows partition, install another version of Win7 and test Acronis 2014 on that. Any other options? Is this a stupid idea? Any other comments?

Tournament Link:

This thread serves as a place to talk and chat about RB chess tournament #5. You can openly talk and analyze finished games, games that have not yet started or the tournament situation. There is one important rule:
If you are commenting on a game that is still in progress use spoiler tags and name the players! Players of that game are not allowed to read the spoiler until their game is finished.
An example would be:
Novice-Zakalwe
Rowain-MJW
For user-friendliness, you can also include a link to the game along with your comments. You may comment on your own ongoing games, but again spoilers are mandatory and you can't read answers until the game is over. It is understood that your opponent is not allowed to read these spoilers during the game either.

How much data does civ use in MP? |

I've been wondering, with being restricted to my smartphone for this weekend, how data intensive pitboss is? I'm kicking myself for not bringing my laptop for PBEM, those saves are fairly negligible for size.
How much data does a turn in pitboss take, I guess it would depend on player numbers and game stage.

Spaghetti Cabonara
150 g dry-cured ham, diced
1 TS Olive Oil
3 egg yolks (be sure to take organic eggs, since they won't be cooked through)
100 ml Cream
50 g Parmesan, grated
Salt and Pepper
200 g Spaghetti
fresh garlic
Onions (optional)
You only need one pot for this dish
pan fry the diced dry-cured ham (and onions) in the olive oil, don't use too much heat, olive oil is sensitive. Add the garlic for not more than 30 sec, set aside on a plate
Fill pot with water and bring to a boil, add salt and Spaghetti.
In the meantime fill a measuring cup with the Parmesan, the cream, the egg yolks, salt, pepper and the ham garlic mixture and stir.
Cook the Spaghetti al dente
Drain the water, but keep ~150-200 ml in the pot
put the pot back on the stove, on the stove top you cooked on, but turn off the heat.
Quickly mix the contents of the measuring cup into the Spaghetti, be sure not to stir too long or the egg will solidify. You should get a creamy sauce. Add salt and pepper to taste.
plate and Enjoy
I'm using the metric system here.
