Hi all!
You may call me Zanth and I'd want to post reports about our PitBoss game.
Some general info:
1) English isn't my native language, so feel free to correct me (I hope after a few posts my language would be more understandable for native-speakers)
2) game is connected to CivStats, here's the link http://www.civstats.com/viewgame.php?gameid=2634
3) If you know Russian, you may visit http://fosgenij.tumblr.com/ where I've already posted some reports.
4) I'm playing Cyrus and gonna wipe out all other civs w/ my immortal army
5) It's the game w/ the map generated here http://realmsbeyond.net/forums/showthread.php?tid=6467
I'm hosting a small tournament on November the 23rd for Starcraft 2 - all skill levels are welcome, we are doing it in a round-robin format, so you will almost certainly be able to play against people of your own skill level, no matter how good or bad you are at the game.
This is the IT and Tech Issues Thread for RBP16, the newest 'vanilla' pitboss game here at Realms Beyond. The organizing thread for the game can be found here.
The game is now live. If this is your first time connecting please read this entire post carefully. Text in Red will be of interest to veterans.
Access the game via DirectIP connection to sunrise089.dyndns.org:2061. No password is needed (nor will one permit a successful connection) when connecting to the game. Make 100% sure there are no spaces in the field or you'll get an error. Spaces love to crop up unexpectedly, so please double-check this before posting that you can't connect.
The first time a player logs into the game they will be asked to set and confirm a password. This is non-trivial to change, so please make sure you know what it is, can remember it, etc.
In-game you can play as normal. This game is played via simultaneous turns, so you can queue unit actions and builds like normal, even after you end turn. I get asked sometimes, so I'll note you press TAB to chat in-game. When you're done playing please log out via Exit to Main Menu, not Exit to Desktop (which can create connectivity/lag issues).
I have set a 48 hour timer per team for the first turn. Starting next turn the timer will switch to 24 in-game hours. Of course in the future the timer can be tweaked according to the wishes of the players.
This game uses Civstats to track the turns and other info. This game is here. If you want to register via Civstats and claim your civ the password for each civ is "sirian."
From now on, please let me know if you have any technical concerns in this thread. I can be reached infrequently via forum PM, and easily via email at sunrise089 at gmail dot com and IM at sunrise089 on either AIM or GChat.

I dunno, I can't be the only one - I almost never finish an SP game. I get to the medieval or maybe renaissance era, and I'm usually 50-100% higher in GNP and food output than any other AI, and at that point it's pretty hard to lose - so I usually just stop and start a new game. Am I the only one who does this?
It was just a dance…
There was no harm in it, not really, it was just for the sport, because there was nothing else to do where we grew up. Betty started it, perhaps two months back. She said she’d seen Tituba – you know Tituba, our slave – down there when service was on.
Always during service, mind, so we couldn’t do anything about it, but one day Uncle Parris called a meeting, so we followed her. Nothing wrong with that, we just wanted to see if she would help us with the mopping, y’know.
So we followed her into the forest, along a track I hadn’t see before. We stayed back at first, didn’t want her to see us, but we started to get closer as the tall, dark pines seemed to twist over us, like a tunnel that wrapped us ever tighter…I got a bit scared and made us go closer, but Betty didn’t seem to care.
We were getting really close to Titty when the forest opened to a clearing, with a fire crackling at its centre, and a black man standing over it. Before she could enter he said something I didn’t understand, a sort of rasping snarl, but Titty must’ve understood it because she stopped suddenly and turned to us, shocked.
“Girls, you should go home. You shouldn’t be here.” Her voice sounded oddly strained, but there was a power to her that I hadn’t heard before. I wanted to leave then, just let them get on with it, but Betty piped up, “We heard you were dancin’ in the forest, and we don’t have nothing to do ‘till evening prayers so…”
Tituba took our hands and led us into the clearing. “So you’d like to come and dance with me and my friends? You want that?” There was a hint of sadness, or perhaps resignation to her voice, but an alluring air to it now.
I looked at Betty then, willing her to stop, to get us out of this, but I dared not speak. Her eyes burned with excitement, “Yes!” The black man began to laugh, a low guttural sound that seemed to reverberate in my skull, and suddenly it was echoed by dozens of voices, as all around us shrouded figures emerged capering from the darkness.
Titty laughed too, a gay and in that moment Betty seemed to realise something might be wrong, but she was already dancing. I stood apart for a moment, sickened, then Betty seized my hand and pulled me into the fray.
They say a lot about it now, but what they don’t say is we went to her. The black man will take you in, teach you the dance, pass you the blood sacrament, but they will not make you take it. We chose the horror we unleashed.
Sometimes a dance is more then just a dance…sometimes a dance can burn the world down.
Flavor will be centered around the Salem Witch Trials of 1692, with everyone receiving an appropriate name. Names are public and are for role-playing purposes only. This will be a two faction game, with villagers and witches as the majority and minority respectively. Depending on balance, a Serial Killer, Traitor or Survivor may be included, but no other major anti-town faction. Standard winning conditions will apply (village wins with all wolves dead, wolves win with equal players or when there is no way the village can prevent this).
This game will be a majority lynch game, with a minimum 24 hours before lynches may occur, and a maximum 72 hours, after which a normal lynch will occur (ties will be broken randomly). Majority is defined as 50% of the players plus one (so 11 in a 20 player game, or 9 in a 17 player game).
I will post results when I am next online, or get someone to do so on my behalf. As soon as this majority is reached, however, the player is counted as dead and the day finished, so no posting should occur until results are published. Nights last 24 hours from the publication of results.
Abilities that effect votes will not be applied to vote counts until after the (72 hr) deadline. Any effects placed onto the majority lynched will be posted at the start of the day (for example, "9 votes required to lynch. T-hawk requires 8 votes and Krill requires 10 votes.")
This game will be an open setup, with all possible roles will be defined and explained in the first post of the thread. However, not all roles on this list will be used in the actual game, and less then 75% of players will receive a role (likely much less, but I want players to meta as they see fit). Roles will be assigned randomly, by an outside source if there are any concerns. There may be repeats of roles. I reserve the right to include one secret role.
The sample village role pm will be placed in the first post. Please do not try to manipulate this, or any other GM oversight, to clear yourself (any issues should be PM'd to me for resolution).
Full role description will be provided on death unless it would give spoilers.
Quoting from quicktopics or PMs is not allowed. You may summarize, but no quoting, unless specified otherwise.
I have a setup currently involving 20 players, and I will alter this according to how many choose to play.
Signups will be open until 2200GMT, November 20th. I will start the game 24 hours later.
The game setup is not yet finalized, so if anyone knows they don't want to play and would like to discuss the setup, PM me as I would welcome any input.
Quote:I have been waiting to write this post since before I shipped my first game, since before I joined the industry, since before I even learned how to program. Today, I’d like to introduce Mohawk Games, an independent studio dedicated to making innovative, core strategy games.
So we all know certain games have decent replay values for different reasons whatever they may be. (Wait, what games and who is we?) Diablo is a good example. But how about movies? I ask because similar to songs, I watch certain movies I already seen depending what kind of mood I am in (or even what kind of mood I hope to be in). Some movies, although they might be good, to me I do not want to watch again, or at least not often. As I watched it recently, The Usual Suspects 1995 comes to mind. Good movie, but not one I want to watch often. Then of course there might be those we watch during certain holiday times of the year. (As it was just the time of halloween in certain parts, I watched the first Scary Movie 2000 to get into the spirit, which interestingly enough had a reference to The Usual Suspects in it.) Now on as for the ones that I can watch often, here are a few, and they might not be necessarily good movies, but like said, I can always watch them. The 13th Warrior 1999, Boondock Saints 1999, Ace Ventura 1995, Rapid Fire 1992, Brother 1997, Robin Hood Men in Tights 1993, The Little Devil 1988. These are just off the top of my head, and I can think of more but not needed. So what about you?
I suppose we can say the same thing for books, but maybe better to ask simply what books have you read more than once? It is easier or perhaps just less effort with movies, but other than Murder on the Orient Express, I cannot recall anything I attempted to read more than once, save maybe The Hobbit and LotR. I recall reading that in school then again when the movie buzz was about.
1. 48 hour days. Nights are 24 hours.
2. Days and nights end at 1500 CDT / 2000 UTC. The forum clock is used as the official clock. Votes and actions posted at xx:59 count, votes and actions posted at xx:00 do not.
3. Posting is not allowed after the day and night deadlines until the GM has posted a phase resolution.
4. In the event of extended forum downtime or downtime that occurs in close proximity of the deadline or some other event that disrupts the game, the day may be extended 24 hours at the GM's discretion.
5. During the day each player may cast one vote for someone to be lynched. Players may also vote for "no lynch" and if "no lynch" receives a plurality there won't be a lynch.
6. Votes must be posted in red text or they will not count. Votes with spelling errors of names do count so long as it's unambiguous in the GM's opinion whom is being voted for. Votes embedded in quotes do not count.
7. The player with most lynch votes at the end of the day is lynched and eliminated from the game. In the event that two or more players are tied for the most votes, the tied player that reached their current vote total first is lynched. (A gets to 4 votes first, B gets to 4 votes later in the day, A is lynched).
8. Night actions have been pre-assigned a priority order.
9. Anyone failing to vote for 2 consecutive game days or 3 days total will be mod killed and removed from the game with a loss.
10. Dead players may make one posthumous post that doesn't contribute to discussion.
11. Forum profile camping is not allowed.
12. To prevent confusion that may arise in the case of cross posting, posts may not be edited for any reason.
13. Breaking rules will result in penalties ranging from warnings to loss of abilities to being mod killed depending on the severity of the infraction.
14. Players may not communicate with other players about the game outside the thread via PM, email, chat, quicktopics etc. unless told otherwise.
15. Players must check their PMs and make sure they're alive each game day before posting.
16. The town wins when all threats to the town have been eliminated and there is at least one town player alive.
17. The werewolves win when the werewolves obtain a majority or nothing can prevent this from happening.
18. In the event that an equal number of scum and non-scum is left alive at the start of a day, the scum win.
19. If all players are simultaneously eliminated, or the game reaches a stalemate situation, the game is a draw.
20. Directly quoting role PMs or other communication from the GM isn't allowed unless otherwise specified.
Game specific notable rules:
Days and nights end at 1500 CDT / 2000 GMT
This game will start with a regular night period, and continue on in normal day/night progression.
Scum can ONLY communicate in GM provided means during the night.
In the event that two or more players are tied for the most votes, the tied player that reached their current vote total first is lynched. (A gets to 4 votes first, B gets to 4 votes later in the day ∴ A is lynched).
