  [SPOILERS] AlaePB1 - Furungy & C++
Posted by: Furungy - November 29th, 2013, 15:02 - Forum: AlaePB1 - Replies (79)

Hello, World!

Nice to see you in my reporting thread. Here are some interesting points about me and my goals in that game.

I'd like to post some words about me and my background. So, first of all this is my 1st attempt to play Civilization IV. I have no time and motivation to play with AI, but at the same time I have found it interesting to fight in multiplayer mode. The good news are:

  1. I have some solid background in Civilization series game. I was fond of playing 1st Civilization, Civilization Call To Power and Alpha Centauri.
  2. I have seen introductory Sulla's videos. His gameplay with Willem will be much helpful in that game.
  3. I'm the very skilled programmer. I'll grow my C++ application during this game to calculate optimal tiles utilization. You will see some code listings later. More over, I think that to have an easy to use application with a rich Civilization IV domain model is my primary goal for that game.

  New idea: splinter race variants
Posted by: Arantor - November 28th, 2013, 23:30 - Forum: Master of Orion - Replies (6)

Since in both MoO I and MoO II there is the notion of a precursor race, it struck me that it wouldn't be entirely crazy to think of them as almost a progenitor race rather than just a precursor.

On that logic, if you accept the idea that each of the races you're up against was essentially seeded by that precursor race, is it not also possible that they seeded variants of the races too?

Sort of in the same way Romulans are suggested to be derived from Vulcans, both races share physiological traits, and it is assumed that all other characteristics would be at least a little shared.

We all know that Psilons, for example, are potentially a run-away race. And if you play the Psilons, you know automatically that you have an advantage over all the other races. But what if you were to play the Psilons yourself and be up against a variation of the Psilons? Maybe not quite the same exact race, maybe a slight + modifier here and a slight - modifier there (obviously you'd need to tweak this for all the races' variants), but it would mean you could essentially play a race with the same overall advantages that you normally would enjoy.

On the flip side, playing as the Mrrshan, you'd have a potential equally-unlucky race out there.

The only problem I can imagine is that the balance would either be too marginal as to present an interesting variation, or too extreme to be a 'fair' opponent. Then, I suppose, is the problem of location; your doppleganger race can't be too close (they might swarm you if they're aggressive) but can't be too far away (discounts the doppleganger theory)

Round Up for a Green-faced PBEM
Posted by: Whosit - November 28th, 2013, 20:08 - Forum: PBEM 55 - Replies (353)

I realize my timing may be a bit bad since PBEM 54 started recently, but I'm hoping a few people missed out on that because I'd like to play in a CIV PBEM game. I'm looking for Greens/non-elites. Though I've played in a few games myself, I've hardly touched CIV in months and my skill level has never been excellent, so I think that would work out.

Settings are up for negotiation. Figure typical bans (unless people want no bans for some reason). I'm assuming Unrestricted leaders are what people want. No idea what map script ought to be used, but I like maps where a navy can matter.

Sorry it's kind of vague right now. I just ate a lot of food.

  Cool Games Only You've Played
Posted by: antisocialmunky - November 28th, 2013, 10:40 - Forum: The Gaming Table - Replies (35)

Funny thing about some really good games. It seems like no one else I know has ever played them. However, now with the power of the intertubenets, there HAS to be someone who knows what I'm talking about.

One of my favorite games (as I was never into Diablo) was Nox by Westwood Studios which you can pick up here: http://www.gog.com/game/nox.

It is basically a Diablo clone but not exactly. First of all, it is a lot less random than Diablo because drops and XP typically don't change much between playthroughs if you remember to kill everything and get all the secrets. Second, it plays more like Torchlight with 3 unique classes that are completely different. Third, you tend to get one shot really really really often (especially by the friggin vampires with 1 shot KO warhammers in the final dungeon) so it is like the typical dungeon runner but on steroids. banghead It actually feels a lot like Castlevania with Torchlight gameplay.

Oh yeah and each class gets different maps and quests in each section of the game. :D

There was also a kickstarter for Nox 2.

Anyway, what cool games have you never heard of anyone else playing?

  World of Tanks anyone?

Out of interest: Is anyone playing World of Tanks?

http://worldoftanks.com/

I got into it half a year ago and mostly enjoyed myself since then.
I am "mostly__harmless" on the EU servers, if anyone is interested in the occasional platoon action..

  PB 11 Temp. Sub
Posted by: Oxyphenbutazone - November 26th, 2013, 19:39 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - No Replies

Ever get tired of those sub threads asking you to take over interesting and/or dynamic civilizations? "Oh take over my civ, here's 2 pages if instructions."

Well this is the thread for you! Be prepared to take over a civ that has absolutely no significance at all! Nothing you could possibly do will matter, so you can do whatever you want! I'll leave a small post in my thread, but you don't even have to read that! Beline future tech! Run 100% EP slider against someone around the world! Delete
every worker! It won't affect the outcome of the game at all! If you enjoy kicking down dimmunitive, poorly constructed sand castles, then this is the civ for you.

Ill be able to play sat. afternoon so I'll need a sub until then. Time commitment is extremely light, turns can take as little as 3 minutes if you want. Thanks in advance
