So Brick is a little fried after the last mega-game, but I also agree that the little 9-person games can be a little light. I'm looking at giving him a break with a nice mid-sized 12 person WW game. The game will have a theme, but it will be a semi-open setup, role madness with very weak roles, with a bonus night voting phase (see below).

The theme is that you're all a party of D&D players, one of each class (5th edition, eh). During the day you're going to vote to kick out the munchkins (scum faction). At the end of the day, a randomly-rolled loot item will also drop; the item is a 1-time use power that is publicly known. During the night, players will vote for who gets to get the item with green tags. Everyone knows who gets it, so it's a mayor-race-esque phase. Vote ties will be determined by rolling a d20. Otherwise, bog standard RB WW rules.

  Trying Stars in Shadow

I have started playing this game, which has a lot of MOO2 in its inspiration. I have not played much yet, and am still getting a feel for the game. I was wondering if anyone else had tried this one, and if so what did you think?

  Skywind and Skyblivion fan projects
Posted by: Blake00 - October 18th, 2020, 02:54 - Forum: The Gaming Table - Replies (4)

Anyone else here been following these truly amazing projects over the last near decade? Somehow they just keep on going and get better and better... but you get the feeling by the time they finish there will already be another Elder Scrolls out lol, if they finish!

In fact didn't that happen with the Morrowind mod for Oblivion? (think it was called Morroblivion) By the time the thing was reasonably playable/complete everyone was already off playing Skyrim and they started the Skywind project lol.

I noticed that Skyblivion was covered on gamespot recently which was cool. Sad that the main guy behind it got death threats though. People heavily invested in your fan project is great, complete psychos heavily invested in your fan project not so much lol.

Bio Evil - Resident Evil 1 for SEGA Genesis/Megadrive
Posted by: Blake00 - October 18th, 2020, 01:56 - Forum: The Gaming Table - Replies (7)

Just when you think you've seen everything lol.. these guys have been working on a Resident Evil 1 game on the good old SEGA Genesis / Mega drive and it looks pretty awesome! Obviously not 3D but a very cool 2.5D isometric retro conversion of all the rooms, monsters, and characters. I tried out the demo on the Itch page and sadly its waaaaaaay older than the stuff they've been posting over the last few years. Hope they get it done before Capcom's lawyers see it lol.

  Temporary Sub PBs 54 & 88 (10/16-10/18)
Posted by: naufragar - October 15th, 2020, 07:18 - Forum: Civilization General Discussion - Replies (3)

Is anyone available to cover either of two games over the weekend? Sorry for the late notice. With the pace of PB88, I'll likely only miss one turn, but in PB54 I might miss three. I'll leave easy illustrated guides, so the turns themselves should be simple, and I'll have (intermittent) internet access, so I should be able to respond to forum posts. Sorry again for the late notice, and thanks in advance to anyone who keeps the Aztec/Spanish turns rolling. (I just realized that Civ combination...)

  MOO2: Interesting builds
Posted by: rgp151 - October 10th, 2020, 11:20 - Forum: Master of Orion - No Replies

Been trying a few different custom builds on Impossible and just putting these out there:

1) Spy Master (as already mentioned in a prior thread)

-Feudal
-Repulsive
+Telepathic
+Spying +2
+Omniscient
+Production +1
+Rich Home World

Never use scientists. Steal tech and crank our ships to takeover planets.

2) Super Sakkra

-Repulsive
-Money
+Aquatic
+Subterranean
+Unification
+Large Home World
+Rich Home World

Luck in early planet options plays a big role in this build. If you can find a good Tundra or better planet early it can be huge. The times I've played it on Average universe age, I got generally bad luck with only barren, radiated and desert options into the early mid game, but even with that, the home world is so powerful that its quite good. Once you can get a couple of Terran planets protected by monsters you're set. The home world has 28 max pop!

3) Trade Master

+Charismatic
+Fantastic Trader
+Spying +10

Doesn't seem like much, but is actually works. Playing Charismatic is a big change after playing Repulsive so much. The Leaders are actually pretty good. I like picking up leaders with Spying bonuses to help supplement research, and then buying a lot of production.

4) Early Raider

- Repulsive
- Ground Combat
+Telepathic
+Warlord
+Unification
+Rich Home World

This actually works fairly well on Impossible because the  AI races are so overpowered, the goal is to simply take over the AI races quickly and use their advantages for yourself. Even without Omniscience you kind of know where they will be and can make your way to them. Missile boats to start are good. You should be able to take the race closest to you pretty easily with a rush, unless maybe they are Mrrshan.

Anyone have any other good themed combinations?

  How to play High Men?
Posted by: Anskiy - October 8th, 2020, 22:32 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (3)

I've tried several games with them and they seem quite weak honestly. They have a huge variety of units on paper, however in practice there's only three units worth making in 90% of all situations I've seen: Pikemen for high offensive output, Crusaders for sustaining armies, and Knights for speedy field armies. Paladins cost way too much for what they offer and in the end are little better than Knights barring special circumstances like Night Stalkers. They also seem to have incredibly weak economies, with their innately high unrest leading to much less taxpayers per city and forcing either tons more soldiers as a garrison, or religious buildings which both eat into your income. About the only advantage they actually have is that they can build almost everything except Fantastic Stables, so eventually you can build up to some formidable strongholds.. in theory. How do I play this race more effectively?

Feature request: Easier planar towers as option
Posted by: Anskiy - October 7th, 2020, 11:46 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (3)

I believe this has been discussed before, but I greatly dislike the "Myrror final boss" mechanic on Fair and higher difficulties of Caster of Magic. It makes it so that an entire plane remains locked out for most of the game, and a wizard gets to a huge and unfair disadvantage without facing any competition. Nothing kills the mood more than having a wizard show up with 5000+ gold and 3000+ MP when I'm still trying out my first few rares. Infact this mechanic almost tempts me to play with 3 opponents instead.

  MOO2: Fun Spymaster build
Posted by: rgp151 - October 6th, 2020, 09:45 - Forum: Master of Orion - Replies (1)

I just finished a game with this. It's something different and pretty fun. There are few variations you could do, but here's how I did it:

-Feudal
-Repulsive
+Telepathic
+Spying +2
+Omniscient
+Production +1
+Rich Home World

Granted this makes for a very bad research start, but basically you just don't worry about it and work on making Outposts, Scouts and Colony Ships to make contact with as many races as possible. Find Worm Holes and put Outposts on the other side to quickly get access to all the races and then build tons of spies and basically forget about research. The main things to research early are just the +Spying techs. Make Cruisers and take over worlds.

There are some other possible way to do this, like with Warlord or actually taking Farming +1 and Large Home World could be good too.

Another way to do this without Feudal would be:

-Ground Combat
-Repulsive
+Telepathic
+Spying +2
+Unification

This gives a little better economy and you can do some of your own research this way, but it loses some of the flavor. Anyway, I'm sure there are other similar combos, but this was pretty fun. I did hardly any of my own research, just relying on Spying and picking up a few Spy techs and early critical ones here and there. The beginning was a bit difficult with food production the way I did it. I did start by researching Hydroponic Farms. Once I got Planetary Super Computers my own research started to be okay, and with Auto Labs of course I was ale to finally direct my own research reasonably well. I got a little lucky in that Psilons were in the game, who I never attacked and just kept taking their research. I also got Draxxx pretty early as my second Leader, which was a nice surprise.
