How to be a good Shield The Shield
should not be chasing after monsters, let the monsters come to him. The
shield should act as an anchor where the battle takes place while the
others move around him and adjust their positions accordingly. He should
also use the Shift key while attacking monsters to avoid moving in case
the monster is killed or running away. This will eliminate friendly fire
from the mage and strayed arrows from the rogue. When the shield is chasing
after monsters he is in effect shifting the battlefield around and makes
it hard for the others to follow safely. This can lead to deadly consequences
if the mage is in melee combat trusting his life in the hands of the shield.
Or, the warrior might get pin cushioned himself for moving into the rogues
line of fire. A moving warrior/shield also hinders the mage and rogue,
they are afraid to open fire because it might hit him accidentally. This
gets worse when fighting against Hidden type monsters when they phase
in and out and move quickly in a random fashion youll find the mage
running for his life like a chicken with his head cut off because he is
under constant danger. See also:Warrior, mage and rogue treaties for more coop tips
It seems these long
corridors are custom built to specs for skel-archer hordes. In an Ironman
game with Layil and Dr.Zed, my mage was killed trying to run away from
one million and one arrows without success. I ended up looking like a
porcupine mating the floor and heard someone shouted "Seems like
our mage needs to learn happy feet". You would think I know what
happy feet is all about after playing KingOfPain(BNM) and KoPeace... I
guess my feet weren't jolly enuf ;p Actually, the long columns dividing the hall and how the game handles a diagonal walk through these columns is the culprit. When running (or approaching activated archers), walk directly sideways first (shown with blue arrows) to dodge arrows and get yourself into the main hall. In a panic, one tend to click on the yellow or red spot to escape thinking that you might dodge some arrows and gain some distance at the same time. The picture shows how the game will walk you to the destinations, and seeing yourself not making it to the main hall with a few arrows poking through your back and red globe rapidly depleting, you keep making the same mistakes - Continuously clicking on the red or yellow spot will just make you walk straight along the inside column. Sure, there are rare times the game will walk you out to the main hall first when you clicked on the yellow or red spot, but that's not a gamble I will take again ;)
