  Poll : Fate Mastery
Posted by: Seravy - January 10th, 2021, 07:26 - Forum: Caster of Magic for Windows (CoM II) - Replies (7)

Quote:An idea for improving Chaos/Death synergy : A global effect that has "50% chance to reroll an unfavorable result when your unit attempts to resist a spell or an enemy unit attempts to resist your spells."
This would suit Chaos theme (rely on random chance), would be semi useful on its own (you can't gain immunity to spells this way but your odds of resisting does get better anyway), and would be a drastic buff to interaction with Death (your spells have a much higher chance of working, again, only if the target isn't already immune and your odds are decent, so it's functionally different from simply stacking a resistance penalty which would be far too good.)

The problem is I don't really see a way to add it, we used all the spell slots and this is way too good to simply add it on an existing spell as a secondary effect. Maybe on Sky Fires? Manipulating fate can explain why meteors fall from the sky at random. Sky Fires is a bit underwhelming anyway but adding this might make it far too good? (basically, it's a global resistance buff to your armies, plus extra fire bolts, plus higher chance for your Shatter and Warp Creature working.)

Possibilities :

Fate Mastery
3 Random Fire Bolts fall on the opponent during battle.
There is a 33% chance to roll again once on an unfavorable result when your unit rolls for Spell Save or an enemy unit rolls a Spell Save against your spells.

Force of Will
All of your units in battle gain +3 Attack.
There is a 33% chance to roll again once on an unfavorable result when your unit rolls for Spell Save or an enemy unit rolls a Spell Save against your spells.

Manipulate Fate
There is a 33% chance to roll again once on an unfavorable result when a unit on the same side of the battlefield rolls for Spell Save or the controlled of this unit casts a spell that requires an enemy unit to Save.

I'm leaning towards Sky Fires (Uncommon is more realistic to have in a dual combo than rare and this spell is meant to be very powerful yet it currently isn't - 3 fire bolts are good but ultimately it's still worse than +30 casting skill so it's much worse than even AEther Binding's SP generation effect) or Chaos Spawn (this unit literally is useless for a Death wizard as they have their own save or die effects), or even both. Please note the 33% is just an example, and we will calculate the actual effect on the results and pick a percentage accordingly later.

Actually not true, Chaos Spawn is pretty good for Death. It has better save modifiers than their own unit(s) and spells, and Stoning ignores Death Immunity, plus they can stack Black Prayer and Misfortune. The only issue is Death lacks the ability to keep the Chaos Spawn alive. Fear can work against melee units but no way to deal with ranged. (then again, vs ranged you don't need Chaos Spawn in the first place. Shadow Demons, Night Stalkers, etc do that job better.)

PS : Alternately, we can drop the "when your unit makes a save" part, as we're adding it as a secondary effect. Since the primary use of the spell already exist, even if we can't use the secondary effect well in pure Chaos, it's not a problem.

"Reroll enemy saves" means you can reroll when you are casting a spell on the enemy.
"Reroll all saves" means you can also reroll when your unit saves against an enemy spell.

What should be theme of "Nature" realm?
Posted by: Suppanut - January 10th, 2021, 07:21 - Forum: Caster of Magic for Windows (CoM II) - Replies (18)

(January 10th, 2021, 06:23)Seravy Wrote: Summoning, improving terrain, buffing summoned creatures, the element of Earth, dealing Cold damage, Petrification. Slowing/preventing enemy movement in combat.
In general, summoning, terrain, Slowing in combat, and being able to do everything else on an average or below level are the four main themes.

I think that last point is a bit too much, it looks like admitting "actually it doesn't have much of a theme, so it does a bit of everything"

I think "Nature" realm should be more than left over and mediocre like it is. It should be unique in its own way too. If nature means wild, feral, and savage, then it should be wild, feral, and savage. If want to straight up make fantasy forest creatures, why not included nymph, dryad and ent too.

Do you have any proposal about what "Nature" realm should be?

Pick your preference.

This is one possible idea to improve the synergy of Chaos and Death.

  Multi realm synergies
Posted by: Anskiy - January 5th, 2021, 12:44 - Forum: Caster of Magic - Replies (21)

Since Seravy recently discussed the viability of multi realm strategies in CoM 2, I figured I'd start one for CoM here.

I've only recently started delving into multi realm wizards, my current attempts being Chaos + Death. So far I've found that unless there's a specific synergy you're going for, they have less guarantees for good tools and become a bit of a roulette wheel as the game goes on. However it does feel great when you stumble on a combination that works. The potential for spell trades is also higher, and you can generally reach higher tiers faster since you have less spells from each tier to get through. My favorite moment was unlocking Great Lizard and Mystic Surge at the same time, and using that combo to plow through many liars, before being unfortunately exorcised by some Angels.

  Best game on Realms 2020

What was your favorite game to lurk (civ or otherwise) on Rearlms Beyond in 2020?

For me it is a toss up between Cairo narrowly holding off a dogpile and winning via culture in PB43 or PB49 for pure entertainment.

  Getting crushed
Posted by: haphazard1 - December 29th, 2020, 16:55 - Forum: Master of Orion - Replies (5)

Played a medium galaxy, 5 opponents game as the Sakkra. Had some tough luck at the start, with the second world being quite small (size 35) and the only other reachable world being ultra poor. But there was a nice ocean world available with range 4 and it was in my tree, so I started the usual build up of the home world and got some propulsion research going.

The first bad sign was GNN announcing the Silicoids had 6 planets while my colony ship was still on the way to the ultra poor planet that would become my third world. The next bad sign was the Psilons grabbing a world near by a trio of habitable worlds that I had scouted but had no realistic hope of reaching (range 7 needed or a long range colony ship). Their new colony brought the Psilons into contact with me, and I learned the brains had double my planets and three times my pop...even before they grabbed that trio of worlds. eek

Psilons AND Silicoids with twice my planet count, which included a small planet and an ultra poor? shakehead I was not feeling optimistic...and sure enough, the game turned out to be quite short. Psilon council victory in 2400 against the Silicoids, voted for by races I had never met (Humans, Meklar) that hated the rocks and had allied with the brains.

Oh well. Some galaxies are just not friendly. Another try as the lizards, or maybe a different race next? Hmmmm....

Share your tales of bad, unfriendly MOO galaxies. We can at least know we aren't the only ones having a tough time. lol
