Zippy Glade Mission - Progression: Aurora Glade
Wyrm - 25 Jun 2007

"I wish you all-" said Gretchen. She was going to say "luck" but before she could the team had already gone off into the old druid village. They knew they didn't have much time and they weren't going to waste it on pleasantries.

For the first time, they were moving at the pace Sanskirt wanted to move at all along, which was to keep moving and mow through fights. Their speed wasn't without its drawbacks though, as they were moving on and getting into fights before they finished recovering from their previous skirmishes. Stargazer was especially stressed out trying to keep people alive.

The Mantle had a head start on them, and had enough numbers to leave patrols behind to try and slow the team down. Considering the hurried pace of the group and the fact that the Mantle who remained also had to contend with the plant and animal life of the jungle, they weren't able to slow the them down by much. Every precious second counted though, and they knew that.

After they had gone far enough to reach the outskirts of the village, and knew the gate to Denravi would be close, they heard the sounds of a battle. At first, because they were moving so fast, they almost mistook it for the Mantle fighting the jungle; but as they grew closer to the sounds they realized that there was a Shining Blade fighting the Mantle. They knew it would cost them time, but they felt compelled to save the scout.

"Thank you for sav-" said the scout. That was all he was able to say before the group had moved on. He ran after them but knew it would be futile to try and catch up, so as loud as he could, he yelled after them.

"Be wary, Demagogue himself is up ahead!" he said.

The party heard this and was slightly encouraged. They wanted to settle the score with Demagogue who had been hunting them until this point. It would be their chance to even the score with him.

Moments after they had left the scout behind, they came to the massive rune crystal structure that controlled the gate to Denravi. They had to hurry, the Mantle had already used their own attunement crystals to capture points of defense and it looked as though they were in just as much of a hurry as the team was, as they had runners heading straight for pedestals without worrying about engaging in the fighting.

The task for the party was doubly hard at this point because they not only had to stop the Mantle from claiming the pedestals and claim them themselves, but they also had to fight back the assaults of the Mantle. Fortunately, they had grown quite knowledgeable when it came to fighting the Mantle and were able to guard the nearest point to them vigorously, stopping all Mantle that tried to claim the pedestal. Eventually they wore the Mantle's numbers down and were ready to go on the offensive. They moved forward and attacked all Mantle they saw. Soon they were face to face with Demagogue himself and this made them happy since they really wanted to hurt him for all the trouble he caused them. They did so, and with the Mantle wiped out, they were finally able to take a break and slow down as they claimed the remaining pedestals.

After they had gone through the gate to Denravi, they found they had one last trial to overcome. There was a root behemoth guarding the area, and he had to be dealt with before the location would be secure. The fight would normally have been nothing for them to worry about, but they were weakened and exhausted from their ordeal with the Mantle, so it was a harder fight than they would have preferred at that point. They did, ultimately, defeat the guardian and finish securing the location.

When Evennia finally showed up to congratulate and thank them, they had already fallen asleep.
