Multiplayer MOO battle |

I am collecting data for our development of the next generation of MOO (new game).
Imagine an MOO1 combat, where each player has up to 7 ship stacks and up to 7 (possibly human) players playing the same battle. Assume that battlefield size, speed, etc. are all "optimal".
Consider the following 3 design ideas for such battle:
a) Round robin (one player plays at a time, other players wait, pass control in a circle)
b) Simultaneous turn based (All players give order to all of their stacks in the same time. All press "done". When all orders are in, all ships, weapons, specials act (specifics are up to your imagination, I keep this point broad for this survey)
c) Real time strategy
Rate the ideas:
1. Round robin (answer: 1 = awful, 2 = bad, 3 = average, 4 = good, 5 = excellent)
2. Simultaneous turn based (1 = awful, 2 = bad, 3 = average, 4 = good, 5 = excellent)
3. Real time strategy (1 = awful, 2 = bad, 3 = average, 4 = good, 5 = excellent)
4. A different idea from the above three. State it. (1 = awful, 2 = bad, 3 = average, 4 = good, 5 = excellent)
5. Write comments about how you would design multiplayer battle for up to 7 players in MOO.

Original Post
Civ4 AI Survivor will be back again soon, ready to launch another tournament for 2015! There are plenty of questions to be answered as the AIs take to the Australian Outback for the second season. Can Justinian defend the AI crown in another repeat performance? What will fan favorites like Mansa Musa, Catherine, and Zara Yacob be up to this time? Who will win the pungent incense award for most suicidal AI? All this and more, coming soon!
Here's my current thought process. This is still in the planning stages, so feel free to make suggestions.
* I'd like to start the Survivor competition in about two weeks. I have an off day from work on Friday February 20, so I'm thinking perhaps on that day. This gives us a chance to do a less ragged start than last year (when I was essentially making it up as I went along).
* Games this year will be Livestreamed on my Twitch channel. This was requested by several folks last year, you'll have the chance to see these AI games play out in real time. There will not be written reports this year. I'm sorry about that; I think the written reports are better, personally, but I'll never have the time to do 13 full write-ups again while working full time. Apologies.
* Plan is to do one game per week. That should provide enough time to do the prediction contest and watch the weekly AI game. Remember, you don't have to watch live - everything gets permanently saved on my Twitch page.
* The tournament settings are the same as last time, I thought the format worked very well. AIs are randomly drawn into 8 games, each with either six AIs or seven AIs. Top two leaders advance to the playoffs, any surviving leaders get tossed into the Wildcard game. Then three playoff games feed into one championship game. Same as last year.
* More specific game settings: Deity AI, Standard size, Arid Climate (to match the season theme), Standard/Low sea, Normal speed, No Tech Trading, No Vassals, No Events, Aggressive AI.
Prediction Contest
The prediction Contest is back! And now even better, since Sullla has gotten much better at using Excel in the last year. We're making predictions in the following categories:
Winning Leader (5 points)
Runner Up Leader (5 points)
First to Die (5 points)
Victory Type (3 points)
Victory Date (10 points for exact, 5 points within 10 turns, 3 points within 25 turns, 1 point within 50 turns)
These are all returning categories. The one change here was to decrease the exact date bonus from 15 points to 10 points, since we had suggestions that that was a bit excessive. There's one new category this year:
Total Number of Wars (5 points for exact, 3 points within 2 wars, 1 point within 5 wars)
This is the replacement for the "Surviving Leaders" category, which turned out to be a bit of a dud. Someone suggested we guess the total number of wars instead, and that sounds like a lot more fun. Every time a war breaks out, some people will be gaining points and others losing points. Sounds like fun, especially when it's happening live on stream.
Logistics
*I think it might be a good idea to set up a Google docs spreadsheet to make prediction contest entries easier. (I'll also accept them in this forum thread too.) Anyone have some advice on the best way to do that?
* I'd like to do the random leader drawing and the map creation for the first game sometime this upcoming weekend, live on stream. I'll post in this thread when that happens.
* Here's a link to my Excel file with some sample data for examples. The workload should be vastly easier now that I know how to automate everything:
http://www.garath.net/Sullla/Civ4/Surviv...vivor2.xls
* Any other suggestions for things that I'm missing (?)
This forum's been a bit quiet lately. Let's see if we can generate some more activity.

So, a FFH duel league is going to be ... interesting. Honestly, the game isn't really balanced for duels, you can already see 1 power pairing in the Mahala vs Auric match. I'm sure we'll see at least 1 game with an early Wild Hunt knockout. I figure most the games will be reasonably short for this reason, and there will probably be lots of times you need to find a creative solution to a problem. So it sounded fun to participate.
That said, I went and chose Beeri Bawl(Ind/Fin) of the Luchuirp for my game with Tasunke. He chose the size to be small, which actually means really freaking big for a duel. So I thought it was an opportunity to play something a bit different. With mud golems and the early worldspell, I should be able to snowball well.
I think I'd probably be the favourite for this thing, so I sort of expect all my opponents to pick power combinations against me. Hopefully me not picking a power-combo will discourage this a bit and leave my hand a bit more open for the future games. I'm thinking my other choices might be;
Kandros of the Khazad - seems like the Khazad should be pretty good in a duel.
Auric of the Illians - PoW rush
Alexis of the Calabim - Rivers of Blood, Aggressive Moroi, Governors Manors.
Cassiel of the Grigori - again, seems well suited for a duel. Also, I can name my Adventurers after Supernatural characters!
They all sound fun. I don't want to pick the Doviello or Kurios, since I've already played them. That does mean I'll always have them in my back pocket as a counter-pick if necessary though. Clan, Hippus or Averax all seem like powerful choices for the final game. But they don't excite me much for some reason. Maybe, Volanna, playing around the with Sidar worldspell or a a March of the Trees rush Ljos could also be considered.

[no AdrienIer] Miguelito duels Adrien |

So, since we ar ejust working too well as a team in 65, we decided to create a bit of bad feelings.
No experience with duels from my side, so he may very well eat me with his first warrior.
I would appreciate all good advic and comments on my, expectedly, horrendous errors.
Setting is all random, RtR, mirrorland, normal barbs, don't know about huts
Adrien got Zara of Carthage, and I've got Boudica of Portugal. So two water civs, that's funny. Strat is to build many super-XP melee units and crush him before he gets the inevitable economic advantage. If that doesn't work, build many super-XP gunpowder units - which might hop off from carracks if the opportunity arises - and crush him despite his economic advantage.
Playstyle will be casual, no sims.
This is the start:
Decided to scout that coast because, well, I've got a fisher civ. Found this.:
I decided to settle where the scout is.
Pros:
- gets crabs early
- connects the two seas, improving my boating abilities
- I'm CHM, so don't really need furs early on
- grassland incense for sure is a good commerce tile once we get it hooked (will take a while ofc)
Cons:
- I lose an assumed plains hill NW of the stone and whatever resources were hidden in the fog. Maybe even copper.
- is accessible from both seas, improving my chances of getting boated
Adrien hadn't settled either, so I'm not behind yet
Is there interest in continued reports on this? I already feel I'm writing the PBEM65 thread mostly just for Adrien, and he can't read here, so...

Number of ship designs |

I am collecting data for our development of the next generation of MOO (new game, not patch).
1. What is your opinion on MOO's limit of having 6 ship designs available at any time? (answer: 1 = awful, 2 = bad, 3 = neutral/no opinion, 4 = good, 5 = excellent)
2. What number would work best in MOO for available ship designs, assuming nothing else changed (apart from making space for them in battle by growing battlefield and fleet selection view)?
3. How do you rate your knowledge of MOO? (1 = very poor, 2 = poor, 3 = average, 4 = good, 5 = excellent)
4. How do you rate the likelihood that you beat MOO with random race on impossible small or medium map with Kyrub's MOO v1.40m patch? [no cheating, but exploits OK] (nearly impossible = 1, unlikely = 2, tossup = 3, likely = 4, almost certainly = 5)
5. Write comments around the issue of the number of ship designs in MOO.
Thank you,
