Inspired by seeing Angband again...
An Angband variant, 'Trouble of Middle Earth' has evolved a bit (I played it when it pretty much looked like angband and even won once). It had to change name to Tales of May'Eyal due to copyright stuff, and is not pretty unrecognizable from a 'band.
Anyone play this?
Feels like a diablo II and roguelike clone, levelup gives you stats and class points to improve skills (not 1-50 though, 1-5)
I like that the areas have 'boss' monsters, with good drops and GOOD exp - so there is not so much grinding for exp, but rather completing areas/killing bosses - so you move forward naturally with the story/quests. First boss kill will likely give 4-5 levels.
Check it out : http://te4.org/
I don't like some of the (non-fantasy) classes, PSI powers and such (just avoiding using them and hopefully not meet too many NPC variants of those classes), and so some areas feel a bit 'off' in story/style but otherwise I've had much fun with the game.
It has locked content, very cool. You unlock races and classes as you play. To start out I think your best bet is dwarven bulwark, shield-warrior type. Archmage are easy too but need to be unlocked.
You can also set options to give you more lives than the one normally have. I never have, such blasphemy! but you could.
Should probably do a showcase when I get time, but perhaps someone else will get hooked and save me the work instead...

RBP8 IT and Tech Issues Thread |

This is the IT and Tech Issues Thread for RBP8, the second Realms Beyond pitboss game using the community developed "RB Mod." The planning thread can be found here.
The game is now live. If this is your first time connecting please read this entire post carefully. Text in Red will be of interest to veterans.
Access the game via DirectIP connection to sunrise089.dyndns.org:2057. No password is needed (nor will one permit a successful connection) when connecting to the game. Make 100% sure there are no spaces in the field or you'll get an error. Spaces love to crop up unexpectedly, so please double-check this before posting that you can't connect.
The first time a player logs into the game they will be asked to set and confirm a password. This is non-trivial to change, so please make sure you know what it is, can remember it, etc.
In-game you can play as normal. This game is played via simultaneous turns, and you can queue unit actions and builds like normal, even after you end turn. I get asked almost every game, so I'll note you press TAB to chat in-game. When you're done playing please log out via Exit to Main Menu, not Exit to Desktop (it creates connectivity/lag issues).
I have set a 36 hour timer per team for the first turn. Starting next turn the timer drops to 22 hours (approximating 24 real life hours). In the future the timer will be tweaked according to the wishes of the players and game admin.
This game uses Civstats to track the turns and other info. This game is here. If you want to register via Civstats and claim your civ the password for each civ is "sirian."
From now on, please let me know if you have any technical concerns in this thread. I can be reached infrequently via forum PM, and easily via email at sunrise089 at gmail dot com and IM at sunrise089 on either AIM or GChat.

So, between The Pit talking about rogue like games, and watching Mostly Harmless doing his ASCII Dwarf Fortress, I decided to go back and play a TRUE rogue like game!
Angband!
This is one of those games that never leaves the hard-drive and I come back to every now and then. Enjoy the trip as you follow the adventures of:
Aldor the Rogue

Great Game, been playing it off and on since it was released. I just discovered this board and have since updated my original release to the latest version of catnip.
I havent played this in 5+ years and last time i played i remember having fun playing this combination:
Myyran/Myyror
Death
Dark Elves
Scout and find gold crystals +5 Power and build a city near them. Max out the city and crank out warlocks that had the equivalent boost to magic as admantium does to melee. Stack of 9 = Win.
I have read this board and the old board SwordStorm and i havent seen anyone talk about Power Crystals. Am i remembering my strategy wrong? Is it worth doing this? Seems like everyone goes the admantium route but no one talks about highmen/dark elves coming out of a city built near +5 crystals.
