  Ancient Domains of Mystery (ADOM)
Posted by: Profane - April 6th, 2011, 02:11 - Forum: The Gaming Table - Replies (89)

Just read the Desktop Dungeons thread (sounds interesting, I really should try it sometime), and was wondering:

Does anyone play ADOM here?
ADOM is a Rogue-like RPG with a text-based interface (powered by the curses library - yeah, it's really old) with random dungeons.
Your goal is to save the world from ChAoS.

The game itself has a steep learning curve - I remember it being rather hard remembering all the necessary controls to play the game (I still have to refer to the keybindings from time to time!), but after that I find the game rather enjoyable to play from time to time.

I suck at the game though. For those of you who know the game, the furthest I ever got was the

top floor of the ToEF with my Dwarven Paladin, where she got critical-hit by a Fire Elemental and died frown
I should've drunk my stat-boosting potions before entering. Too late for regrets anyway, but i've learnt my lesson.

The game is ripe for variant play - I know the ADOM community has long had these variant play games, like the Infinite Dungeon run and so on (furthest I got with that was to Level 31 of the ID where my Orcish Elementalist (I like to let fate decide my race/gender/class/stats) got killed by a Mimic Hivemind - punishment for being greedy frown). Well, a n00b like me shouldn't be trying variant play yet, but one cannot resist doing so. wink

All continents are galley reachable by every other player, without having to go through a 3rd continent

No permanent alliances
No vassal states
Default Starting Units

  SotS 2 Info
Posted by: Zed-F - April 3rd, 2011, 06:19 - Forum: The Gaming Table - Replies (182)

I figured that since RBCiv iseems to be on the lookout for new 4X gaming opportunities, this would be a good time to post some info about one of the titles I am most looking forward to in the not-too-distant future.

There's quite a few other trailers, interviews, and dev diaries out there to look at as well, plus of course the Kerberos forums.

Anyone else looking forward to this one? IIRC T-Hawk mentioned he was thinking about it.
