What We've Started Progression: * Quests: Kormir's Crusade; All
Alone in the Darkness * Missions: Gate of Madness; Abaddon's GateWyrm - 06
Jul 2007 Wyrm - 06 Jul 2007 The time has come for us to strike
at Abaddon himself. Before we can do that, however, we need to figure out exactly
how we, as mere humans, can do so. Kormir thinks that we can do so by using a
relic of the five gods, something they may have used themselves when they cast
Abaddon down into the realm of torment. Finding such a relic won't be easy though.
Kormir sends out her scouts to search the surrounding areas, but tells us there
is another location no scout has gone to so far that she wants to investigate
with us.Moving
around here is very treacherous as there are demons everywhere searching for us.
Since it would be nearly impossible to fight them as small groups, we decide the
best course of action for us to take is to sneak past whatever we can. We soon
find ourselves on a twisting path that looks like the underbelly of a centipede.
As we advance, we run into demons the likes of which we have never seen before.
In addition to looking strange and different, they can attack us in ways we haven't
encountered before. One of these demons has the appearance of a flying dragon
and, as we discover, we must destroy this one first or it will mean ruin for us. Once
past these new demons, as well as a few titans, we find ourselves back in an open
area with a giant mass of torment demons blocking our path. Like before, we decide
to sneak past them as best we can. We wind up in a location that has never been
scouted before. We find a Forgotten keeper here and ask him about getting the
aid of the five gods to help us defeat Abaddon. He tells us there is a chance
that, when Abaddon and his Margonites were cast down into torment, their temple
was cast down with them, and this temple might make it possible to communicate
with the five gods. This
keeper does not know the exact location of the temple, but says that there is
a lot of Margonite activity in one concentrated area and that it is only increasing.
Our best bet would be to search in that area. Another reason for us to go this
way is because a sunspear scout found its way here and ran off on his own in search
of the temple. Not the smartest thing to do. We
set out after the scout and do, indeed, notice quite an increase in Margonites.
We have to fight them very carefully because of both their large numbers and the
density in which the different groups are moving with. Once past these, we wind
up at a Margonite temple, but it's a false alarm as this place is just a hub where
Margonites come and go in their ways. We keep moving forward and wind up back
out in the open, where we dodge a few titans and torment demons, and then finally
find the sunspear scout that ran ahead. He's being attacked by Margonites, of
course. We quickly move to intercede and once the Margonites are destroyed, we
question the scout. According
to the scout, he followed the Margonites directly to a temple of the six gods,
a temple from before the fall of Abaddon. Abaddon brought the temple into torment
with him when he was cast down, and now the Margonites worship him at this temple,
having desecrated the shrines to the other gods. This is the temple we've been
searching for. We thank the soul and tell it it has done its part and can now
travel to the Mists. We
start our approach to the temple of the six gods, originally with the idea that
we are just going to do some reconnaissance, just so we can see what we are after.
We destroy two groups of Margonites and arrive at an intersection. Going West
continues on the same as before, while heading South takes us over a rocky chasm.
We choose the southern path and follow that, fighting titans along the way, until
we reach another fork in the road. This time we head Southwest and wind up back
on the path from before. My guess would be that this was a shortcut. We
fight more Margonites and torment demons until we arrive at a hill, where we see
one of Abaddon's generals standing behind a closed gate. He begins threatening
us and we back off, going back down the hill, more because we think we've scouted
far enough and that now would be a good time to head back. Unfortunately, this
idea is short-lived as the general, known as Shiro, summons demons to fight us
that are a lot like the others we fought earlier. So, Shiro is the one responsible
for summoning them. We fight a group of these and then see a newly opened path
at the bottom of the hill, which we figure to lead to the temple. As
we go through the doorway, another of Abaddon's generals that calls itself the
Undead Lich, also starts to threaten us and then opens up several rifts around
us that summon demons. We really must be getting close. Around this time we notice
that Ginger is not with us, and none of us remember when she left. There's not
much we can do about that at the moment, so we start attacking some of the demons
that are nearby. After we destroy them, we hear Ginger calling out to us. Apparently,
she had gone in the wrong direction and didn't realize it until she looked around
and couldn't see us. That's... um... well... ok... With
Ginger back, we start attacking the portals and notice that when we destroy the
wraiths guarding them, they vanish. We make good use of this knowledge and proceed
to strategically destroy the portal wraiths, as well as the surrounding demons.
Once we have destroyed all of the wraiths and closed the portals, the Lich and
Shiro begin to taunt us again and say they will take us on themselves. We approach
them and notice that they are standing in the center of the temple of the six
gods, the very thing we came in search of. This encourages us and, as we move
towards them, they charge at us and attack. I
have a very bitter disliking for the walking dead so we attack the Lich first.
Both he and Shiro pound on us, but we notice that the Lich is the one hurting
us even more, so we intensify our attack on him. The holy damage from our dervishes
really makes a difference, as the Lich begins to retreat and, soon after that,
is destroyed. Now that we are in the center of the temple, we notice that the
shrines of the other gods that aren't Abaddon have been desecrated by Margonites,
just as we were told they would be. This both infuriates and saddens us, and we
decide that, before we destroy Shiro, we will destroy the Margonites and restore
the shrines. Doing this isn't quite as easy as we originally think it will be,
as Shiro follows us around and attacks us while we restore the shrines. His damage
isn't too bad though and we are able to move from shrine to shrine, restoring
them as we go, until all five are restored. Restoring
the shrines of the gods seems to have awakened their favor for us, so we know
that they are at least watching us. This reinvigorates us and, despite having
to have used a few res sigs while we restored the shrines, we feel a new sense
of energy as we fight against Shiro. His ability in combat is notable, but we
are more determined than ever and, with both our efforts and those Koss swinging
away wildly, Shiro is destroyed. With Abaddon's generals destroyed, we move to
the center of the temple, where the avatars of the five gods have appeared so
that we might commune with the gods themselves. The
gods tell us that, while they give us their blessing, they will not intervene
in the battle itself. So, that means we have to fight Abaddon on our own. Well,
that's wonderful to know. The gods seem to have confidence in us though, and at
least they're kind enough to transport us directly to Abaddon's prison. They've
also given Kormir some sort of special gift, which no one understands. We gather
up our courage and prepare for our attack against Abaddon. We move to where we
are just able to see him. We need to do something to raise our spirits, so we
start dancing. Much to our surprise, Abaddon starts dancing as well. Unfortunately,
we are ejected from the prison by an unknown force. Well, ok, that was unexpected. Now
that our jitters have been taken care of, we start our attack on the god of secrets
in earnest. We begin to wonder how we're going to damage him and then notice that
his shackles have been loosened by monoliths. When we destroy a group of monoliths
at each chain, the grip on Abaddon is once again tightened. Seeing an opportunity,
we destroy all of the monoliths and, amazingly enough, Abaddon is pulled down
and we are able to attack him directly. Unfortunately, this does not last very
long and Abaddon forces his chains loose once again, summoning more monoliths
to attack us. We are caught off guard at first, and soon learn that in order to
pull Abaddon down to our level, we have to first restore the chains on his arms
or they will simply free his head. With
this pattern now figured out, we have a way to destroy Abaddon. This doesn't make
the fight an easy one though, as we are in constant combat for a very long time
against both a large number of monoliths as well as the god himself who attacks
us with his own attacks while his chains are loose. This does not alter our determination
though, despite having to use a few res sigs. We repeat the pattern of destroying
monoliths another four or so more times and then, finally, we destroy the dark
god, Abaddon. With
Abaddon destroyed, his power becomes unbound and Kormir steps out, absorbing it
with the gift that the five gods gave her. That was rather unexpected. Kormir
opens a gateway for us to get out of the prison and, when we go through it, we
are in a place where there is a new statue of Kormir and a great deal of the forgotten
keepers. Additionally, all of the Tyrians, Canthans and Elonians that helped us
along the way have appeared to congratulate us. We move through the parade and
are each given a gift from the stores of the forgotten keepers. We
are all of us tired and worn out from the battles we have been in, and having
a long rest will do wonders for us. As I look back on this journey I am filled
with a great sense of pride at everything we have been able to accomplish; Nightfall
has ended, Abaddon has been destroyed, and the world is at peace once again. I
speak to the gatekeeper, Volatiss, and tell him I am ready to leave and go back
to the realm of the living. He sends me to Kamadan, but that is not where I am
meant to be; my place is out in the wild. *** Here
end the writings of Agnamar Gramelog.
